Re: How I Met Your Mother -- Season Premiere -- "Farhampton" -- 9/24/12

HIMYM is one of my favorite shows, and I've never felt so dissapointed with this show till tonight. For a season premier, it was nothing but lazy writing. Marshall and Lily spill the "secret" to Quinn?! SHOCKING! Quinn overreacts and Barney has to "win her back?" SHOCKING! Barney and Robin stare off longinly thinking of each other AGAIN? SHOCKING! And yet another mother tease I'm sure won't go anywhere.

The only thing I couldn't call a mile away was after Klaus came down the drain pipe, I would have been everything I own that Klaus and Victoria would be making out in the car when Ted got back from his "shennanigans."

As much as I love this show, if this season continues this way, I hope they pull the plug.

Re: How I Met Your Mother -- Season Premiere -- "Farhampton" -- 9/24/12

Loved Barney's 52 second recap of the show.

So now we know the mother plays guitar...or at least has a guitar. Looks like we'll get Barney and Robin's wedding day as the season finale, and get to see Ted's "long story."

I liked it, even if it was more a set up of this season than a really strong episode in and of itself.

I hope this is the last season. Gone stale...put a plug in it.

We already knew that. The guitar was in Rachel Bilson's apartment and she said it was her roommate's.

I love the show but it does need a proper ending.

Very disappointed with the premiere. Just retreading the same old stuff, which is fine if there is some laughs, but there wasn't.

Everything felt very flat. Not sure I laughed even once. Last few seasons have had hit or miss episodes so I'll still watch it, but it does seem like its coming to the end.

I agree with what everyone else has said. I was just bored and I must have said "oh come on" like 5 times during the episode.

Yeah, nothing very original with last night's premiere.

Re: How I Met Your Mother -- Season Premiere -- "Farhampton" -- 9/24/12

Like TheKing said, Barney's recap of the show to Quinn was pretty awesome, but then again, Barney's the only thing they have going for them for some time now.

In addition to the show needing to end, I wouldn't be terribly disappointed to see Marshall and Lilly get in an accident and Barney have to raise Marvin. I don't remember it always being this way, but they are just foils for whatever the other character, usually Barney, are doing and add NOTHING humorous to any episode. (Unfortunately, we know Ted can't be in the car with them.)

Agreed, the past 2 seasons have made HIMYM a slow death spiral and the opening for Season 9 really sucked. It's like Friends they ran out of ideas and have been putting crap. Hopefully the writers have an end game and after 9 seasons, the end game better be worth it.

OK, seriously? Am I the only one who thought the "mom's" legs and body looked pretty chunky? Maybe it was my TV.

Fat Betty from Mad Men.

They should change the name to "How i Met Your...are you going to eat the rest of that?"

I posted on another forum that I was surprised by how chubby she appeared from the knees down. I then saw what you posted here, and followed up my prior post quoting you (while I didn't quote you by name, I didn't take credit for coming up with it). It was hilarious.

While I wouldn't really like to see this happen, I remember reading a similar idea I believe from Sepinwall back when the Long Island house plot line was introduced. It made perfect sense on a number of levels.

- Lily and Marshall are moving on, starting a family, and fell into a great house.

- It solved the issue of how they could keep the cast together at a bar that was on the Upper West Side of NYC, a good hour and a half from that Long Island house.

- In terms of the cast, it got Segal off the show for him to continue his more lucrative career as a legit movie star, vs his role of the 3rd (maybe 4th?) most utilized character on a network sitcom.

Yes, I too thought the "Mother" had cankles. I'm sure that will be rectified before the big reveal.

The episode was really flat. I have hopes it will get better. I think last year started slow for me too and then got better as it went along. But, that's just me.

Hate to agree with almost everyone here.

I read somewhere, EW I think, that they are writing this season as if it was the last one, since the contract is up and they haven't been renewed yet.

This is the season 8 opener. I guess it felt longer for you.

But right now they're approaching it as being the final season. They have a plan for a 9th season, but they have to know soon if they're doing 8 or 9.

Get it over with all ready. The characters are really getting pathetic.

Yea, it feels that way.

Season 6 is when I took a chance and bought all of the dvds from Season 1-5 when it was on sale. When it became the "Barney Stinson Show", the writers should admit they couldn't do the HIMYM for more than 4 seasons. I thought season 4, ending with "The Leap" was a start of fresh ideas for HIMYM. But no they go round and round and Ted is made to look like an idiot.

I hope this is the last season.
