I wasn't expecting such positive reviews for this.

3D. I was going to wait and see it Friday morning (3D also), but I noticed on my theaters seating chart that they're showing it in the smaller halls on that day. Tomorrow's midnight showing is in their largest theater, so I decided to go for that.

i saw that too, but considering this was shot in 3D and not post-converted i am still hopeful it is better than the slew of post-converts i've seen lately.

Hmmmm....I don't know but has potential I guess. Are you sure that's not Stallone....the jaw and voice is almost dead on.

Well Frank Stallone has a bit part. If that counts.

I think that people should post what they assumed this movie would be. And then write what they think about it after they see it. The prerelease thread wasn't very open minded or forgiving when those production stills were released.

Re: Dredd 3D (Travis, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

Just got back from our midnight screening and I must say that 'Dredd' rocked my socks off. The violence was awesome and along with The Raid can go down as one of the best action films of the year. The sound in our theater was phenomenal and have no doubt this will have a reference audio track when it hits Blu-ray. Urban, Headey, and Thirlby were all tops. I really dug Olivia Thirlby's performance in particular. She was hot and could handle herself. The blonde hair and leather outfit looked great on her.

The 3-D was pretty good, image was real sharp and the depth of field was vast, and the scenes of 'slo-mo' were real pretty.

People, we need a sequel with this team in charge, so I advise everyone to go see it this weekend. I will be seeing it again this weekend, but will give it a shot in 2D.

I've been wondering, maybe I've missed it but how come I've yet to see the director talk about the film. All I've seen is Garland talk about it whenever there's a video about this film.

I don't know if I want to spend the extra cash for the 3D. Is it really worth it?

FYI I wasn't that impressed with say the 3D in Prometheus. It was too subtle.

My son now wants to see this so...I might give it a shot tomorrow if we have time. I am warming to it based on more recent relentless previews. I must have seen at least 7 last night alone.

It's a toss up, but other than the 'slo-mo' scenes, the 3D just enhances the depth of field, so you're probably better off seeing it in 2D.

I know Garland is also one of executive producers, and I do remember when the director had supposedly been locked out of the editing bay a few months ago. I thought that that had been squashed, but who knows.

How old is your son? The movie is hardcore violent. People get turned into ground beef onscreen, skinned, shot in the face, etc...

It's a fun movie, though.

Just out of curiosity..but how many showings are your theaters getting? For some fucking reason the Cinemark that's like like 3 miles from Campus only has 3 showings today. I got off at work at 10am. Hoping for a showing at 11am. Looked at my Flixster app...y nada. Not till 4:40. Tomorrow there's 5 3D showings and one 2D. Looking at what's out...seems like RE5 and Finding Nemo are taking a lot of the space. And for some fucking reason the hate Obama movie and something about Courage is taken space as well, very few spaces...but space either way. *sigh* You'd think being a college town Dredd would warrant more here cuz we've got a shit ton of people who love their shit violent and hard.

Last night we had TWO midnight showings - one in 3D (the one I was in) in one of the largest theaters, and a 2D showing in one of the smallest theaters.

Dredd is showing 7 times today, 5 times in 3D and 2 times in 2D. The bummer is that it's being shown ONLY in the medium and small theaters.

He is 15 and not allowed to go to R-rated films by himself (even though he "supposedly" should not get in) I feel that he can handle them.
