HBO has been running S2 marathons all weekend and have taken that opportunity to renew my interest in the upcoming season. Looking forward to it.

don't ever assume someone knows what 3-in-1 is. Could be a wrench.

Yeah, I had a hard time buying that.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- Season Premiere -- "Resolution" -- 9/16/12

Carrie Duncan....I said to myself, "why do some people become famous, ie Charles Lindbergh/Amelia Earhart, and some you've never heard of?" I turned to my wife after the show and asked her if she ever heard of "Carrie Duncan?" Of course, she said no.

After doing a little research, I found this:

In the season opener, there’s a woman named Carrie Duncan, who is making a cross-continental flight. She’s not real is she?

Winter: No. We fictionalized her. The character we based her on actually taught Amelia Earhart had to fly, Neta Snook. We based Carrie Duncan on that. As you’ll see the episodes progress, you’ll learn more about the outcome of Carrie’s attempt at flight across country. We did fictionalize her, but she was based on a real female aviator of the period.

Did he know who did it though? I think we may find out in future episodes that he spent some time putting the pieces together and/or someone finally tipped him off. I can't remember if he had any info about who killed her at the end of last season...but I don't remember him knowing.

Anyway, really strong premiere.

I was thinking that he wanted to be around for her son so that the kid would never forget his mom. Once Gillian took that away from him, he decided to go full revenge mode.

That's an excellent theory, and one I didn't consider.

I agree that Gillian's comment was the trigger for Richard to go in revenge mode, but I still don't buy that he waited over a year to do it - even with your theory.

I figured Manny would be killed off this season, but I didn't think it would happen in the first episode. I liked having him around - mainly for his very authentic sounding accent.

I suspected that Nucky and Margaret weren't exactly lovey-dovey when we never saw them together alone to see how they really acted towards one another. Then when they were - Nucky wasn't too happy.

Wonder why we haven't seen Eli yet.

Wasn't Eli supposed to go jail for awhile so they couldn't arrest Nucky for the same thing?

That may be. The only thing I remember from the finale is the fate of James and Margaret signing over the property to the church.

I hope they didn't kill him off early to accommodate the Mob Doctor.

So is Chalky no longer in the booze business? Seemed like Nucky was only using Doyle.

In the finale of S2, Nucky had Eli agree to accept a plea deal of 3 years in prison.

Tremendous episode.

Love the Van Elden/Capone stuff.

So shouldn't Nucky be wiping out Capone's boss by now? Didn't he fuck Nucky over last season?

I missed that. In the coming attractions, they show a very "slimmed down" Eli - maybe scenes with him in prison?

I kept glancing at the clock while watching and hoping the episode wasn't almost over yet. Amazing.

Haha, yeah - me, too. I looked at the clock, and was relieved that it was only 9:40, with 20 minutes to go!

I was a little confused at Van Alden's name change - I had thought by the end of Season 2, he had played "two-ends against the middle" so he wouldn't be on everyone's shit list.

....guess what he tried didn't work, cause now he's under a new name (which I can't remember). And, he has a 2nd baby, this time with that delicious nanny. Where'd the whore go? (Guess wherever whores go when they go. Oh well, she was a cool character - I started to like her.)

It looks like they are setting things up for him to get into organized crime. I like his character arc.

Van Alden shot a federal agent and made a run for it. It is the same baby.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- Season Premiere -- "Resolution" -- 9/16/12

Yeah, I was thinking it was the same baby but remembered that about 1.5 years have passed since the last episode - and this baby looks like a new-born... so it's a different baby.

Van Alden did bring his first baby with him in last seasons finale, so the kid (close to 2 years old by now) was probably just sleeping.
