Standup Guys (2013) (Al Pacino, Christopher Walken)

Val (Al Pacino) is released from prison after serving twenty-eight years for refusing to give up one of his close criminal associates. His best friend Doc (Christopher Walken) is there to pick him up, and the two soon re-team with another old pal, Hirsch. Their bond is as strong as ever, and the three reflect on freedom lost and gained, loyalties ebbed and flowed, and days of glory gone by. And despite their age, their capacity for mayhem is still very much alive and well - bullets fly as they make a hilariously valiant effort to compensate for the decades of crime, drugs and sex they've missed. But one of the friends is keeping a dangerous secret- he's been put in an impossible quandary by a former mob boss, and his time to find an acceptable alternative is running out. As the sun rises on the guys' legendary reunion, their position becomes more and more desperate and they finally confront their past once and for all.

Release date: January 11, 2013.

Some of the humor parts kind of make me not want to see this while the more serious stuff does attract me. I'm 50/50 on this.

Both actors look like they lost their great talent they once had.
It's like watching Ali vs. Larry Holmes today in the ring.

I'm afraid so. That energy, that enthusiasm is gone. They just there because of their names not because of their once great abilities.

Is it possible that a lack of energy is completely in character? Should old actors be acting like young men?

Clint Eastwood still gives good performances.
Jack Nicholson, Chuck Norris, Dustin Hoffman, Christopher Lee, Sly Stallone have given good performances past 60 years old.

You missed my point. I'm saying that a lack of energy may be in character for the role they are playing.

Get your facts straight. Al Pacino has had 2 excellent performances in the past 10 years. He was 64 whe he did The Merchant of Venice & 70 when he did You Don't Know Jack.
I doubt any of those actors you mentioned have done anything as good as those in the past 10 years (maybe Nicholson with About Schmidt).

Does not compute.

Sure you can like Chuck and think he kicks ass, is cool, knows martial arts and all that...after all, there is no accounting for taste .... but the guy is a monolithically bad actor. He has never once given anything close to a good performance in any motion picture.

His best work was in Code of Silence and in that he is nothing more than a piece of wood drifting between kick ass action scenes.

Funny that the dude who wants him dead is played by Mark Margolis, the dude in the car during the NY/UN scene in Scarface.

Righteous Kill is one of the worse films i've ever seen. This reminds me of that film.

Pacino looks younger now than in that film.

This is one bizarre black comedy. It's pretty bad all around.

I didn't hate Righteous Kill, I have a free ticket that expires next week, I think I'll check it out.

The trailer was able to make this abomination look decent. That is an achievement.

This movie pulled in $1.5 million over the weekend after opening on 659 screens. I consider that just deserts.

Re: Standup Guys (2013) (Al Pacino, Christopher Walken)

I saw it tonight. I wouldn't call it an abomination. I enjoy watching these actors. No, not a perfect film, not even close, but still a nice time at the movies. I thought Christopher Walken was great. Then again, I was very forgiving with Righteous Kill as well.

Wow that's interesting, the question is which one of those two fucked Natalie Wood.

It's supposedly Kirk Douglas. Funny you mention this in a thread with Christopher Walken.

This one isn't confirmed but based on the hints we have the general consensus is that it was Kirk Douglas who raped Natalie Wood when she was a teenager.
The author of a Natalie biography claimed the rapist was a huge Hollywood star at the time who now has a famous son (Michael Douglas).
Natalie also turned down a role in the film The Devil's Disciple which also starred Kirk for 'personal reasons'. Natalie's sister says she will only name the rapist when he dies.
So we will have to wait until Kirk kicks the bucket to know for sure, but there have been other rumors of sexual harassment about Kirk.
