Which trilogy is the best? (25 options)
not to steal philly's thunder, but more extensive and didn't know u could add after the fact....
Original SW for me. But, LotR def. made better but as WY said, it wouldn't exist without original Lucas trilogy.

The Godather based on the mighty strength of the first two films....3 really is hard to sit though, but there is just enough of a slither of greatness in it to push this trilogy over the top.

the only trilogies I like as a whole are Godfather, Indy, Lord of the Rings, and Die Hard.
from those i'd have to go with Lord of the Rings, with Godfather not far behind. I even like Part III, but the first will always be the best.

This is tough, all the trilogies I do love (the Dead, Back tot he Future, Godfather, Indiana Jones, Star Wars) all have at least one shaky leg. I can't think of one group of movies where all three support one another, each as good as the next. It always seems to be two great movies and a third uneven (or outright turd) one.
Lord of the Rings seems to be the closest, but is different from all the other movies since it was produced at the same time. There wasn't a gap of years between parts.
In the end, as always, I go with my first love; Star Wars.

Re: Which trilogy is the best?
Am I the only one on this board who thought The Godfather: Part III was a good movie? In comparison to the first two I could see being disappointed, but still a nice film overall from my point of view.

Yes it was a good film. Albeit problematic, with some iffy performances, lackluster sequences and an almost unavoidable shift in tone from the first two films. But that was almost expected.

The problem with this is that sometimes one in the series (usually 3rd but not always) has a problem.
For instance I would pick the Godfather and Godfather II over the others listed but as a TRILOGY I'd have a hard time picking it because of the 3rd (even though, It's not that bad).
So many good trilogies that encompass many genres.
I'd have to say as a complete trilogy The Lord of the Rings is tough to beat. Star Wars is great but the 3rd film is rather weak. 3 Colours trilogy is fantastic. Indy and BTTF are two personal favs, so it's certainly a tough one.

This is a tough call. Its like asking which of your children do you love the most. But that being said, I went with my first love and voted for the Star Wars originals. But many of the others are just as good.

Re: Which trilogy is the best?
I have to say LOTR although there are some great trilogies listed up there. LOTR had the most satisfying ending for me even though there were a hundred of them.

Mine too (re: Toy Story). I felt that, among all the choices, it's the one trilogy where the quality doesn't vary at all from entry to entry. I could say the same for LOTR, but that feels more like an epic single movie than a trilogy to me due to the way it was filmed/released.
If Nolan's Batman trilogy had been on the list, I might've voted for it.
