Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
With New York City still recovering from the Draft Riots of 1863, Detective Kevin Corcoran finds himself investigating the murder of a young Five Points girl that hits uncomfortably close to home.

Series Synopsis:

In a time when disorder and mayhem were the law of the land, Kevin Corcoran was New York City's finest. Welcome to BBC AMERICA's first original scripted series, COPPER, premiering with 10 episodes Sunday, August 19, 10:00pm ET/PT. From the brilliant minds of Academy Award(R)-winner Barry Levinson, Emmy(R)-winner Tom Fontana and Academy Award(R)-nominee Will Rokos, this gripping drama, filled with intrigue, corruption, mystery and murder follows Detective Kevin Corcoran - a rugged Irish immigrant cop - as he seeks justice for the powerless in the notorious immigrant neighbourhood of Five Points. Bonded by battle to two Civil War compatriots - the wayward son of a wealthy industrialist and an African-American physician who secretly assists the forensic investigations - Corcoran is thrust into the contrasting worlds of elegant and corrupt Fifth Avenue, and the emerging African- American community in Northern Manhattan. The three men share a secret from the battlefield that inextricably links their lives forever.
10 episodes ordered.

This is BBC America's 1st original series, not some import from the UK.

Co-created and Produced by Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Street, Oz)

Produced by Barry Levinson

I loved it, as well. Really nice production values and music.

Hope it gets some decent ratings.

Its been a while since I've seen it....but this is essentially taking place in the same neighborhood after the historical events depicted towards the end of Gangs of New York?

accidentally recorded it in SD, not the new BBCA HD channel DirecTV added. I'll snag it on another rerun.

It was okay, but I was spooked by the strong case-of-the-week, procedural vibe I got from the pilot. I'm out if this is just a weekly cop show set in 1864.

The preview they showed after seemed like we'll have a season long story arc going on. Probably other cases mixed in each episode.

Re: Copper -- New BBC America Series -- "Surviving Death" -- 8/19/12

According to the "Copper: Behind the Badge" special that has been airing on BBC America, each episode will feature stand-alone cases AND a bit about the season-long story arc related to Corcoran's family.

Edit: The Sunday cable ratings are out:

Copper (BBC America)
-10 PM: 1.107 million viewers, 0.36 A18-49

I think the only programs that have ever had higher ratings on BBC America are a few episodes of Doctor Who, so I'm guessing the channel is pleased. Hopefully the ratings hold up and convince BBC America that it will do better producing new scripted programming (like Copper) instead of non-scripted drivel (like the upcoming Chef Race: US vs. UK - which looks like a poor version of The Amazing Race).

I haven't seen this episode but am interested in the series so clicked into this thread. Now that I'm here, I echo the praise for DJariya.

EDIT: Glad the NFL Network hasn't kept you from still contributing here.
