Amazon - MGM MOD sale
Most titles seem to be $10.99, 50% off.
This link lists most of the titles:
MGM Limited Edition Collection
But there are still odd ones like Zone Troopers and Quatermass Xperment that fall between the cracks.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
I noticed a bunch of titles in my cart went down. I ended up getting:
The Spikes Gang
Valerie
Laws of Gravity
These had never dropped below $17.99 since I put them in my cart.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
I don't think these have ever been on sale anywhere.
Does anyone know if there is a listing of all of these anywhere on the web? The descriptions on Amazon aren't consistent and different combinations of "MGM", "Limited", "Edition", etc. give different results.
The transfers on most of these are not as good as the Warner Archive and Sony's Screen Classics MODs but for a wanted title at this price it's probably as good as it will get for the foreseeable future.
Here are some that I'm looking at getting:
Riot on Sunset Strip
Hickey and Boggs
Vigilante Force
Cold Turkey (not anamorphic and has sound problems, but I'll buy it anyway)
Harry in Your Pocket
The Best Man
A Thousand Clowns
The only MGM MOD title that I have bought, The Landlord, is an excellent movie but the transfer is mediocre. Colors and contrast look good but the transfer is interlaced and has lots of compression artifacts.
If anyone has any recommendations I would be glad to read them.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
Thanks for the post. I have to pay almost 10% sales tax if i order directly from Amazon (as opposed to a "3rd party seller"), so unless I cross the free ship threshold of $25, I'm not saving much.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
Wow so many movies from the period I'm endlessly fascinated with lately, the late 60s/early 70s. I love it. And I hate it. At least I'm gonna see some new films, for a more affordable price than they usually are. Hate MOD. And love it.
The Music Lovers - Richard Chamberlain
$10.99
New Year's Evil - Roz Kelly
$10.99
Pieces Of Dreams - Robert Forster
$10.99
The Revolutionary - Jon Voight
$10.99
A Quiet Place In The Country - Vanessa Redgrave
$10.99
Leo The Last - Marcello Mastroianni
$11.49
Act Of Vengeance - Jo Ann Harris
$10.99
The First Time - Jacqueline Bisset
$10.99
EDIT: As someone who is a huge fan of the movie, to the point of it being the first thing I talk about when the holiday approaches and always being on the verge of having its theme song stuck in my head, I had no clue New Year's Evil was even on DVD.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
I'll have to browse the sale, but I'd definitely recommend Sugar Hill (blaxploitation flick about a woman who summons voodoo zombies to take out the thugs who killed her boyfriend). It's light and fairly amusing -- I had a good time with it.
Also, Dreamchild is an amazing film. It's about Lewis Carroll (Ian Holm) and the little girl who inspired his Alice character. Now an old woman, she's summoned to America to celebrate the man she knew as Mr. Dodgson. There are some really interesting scenes where the elderly Alice hallucinates meeting various Wonderland characters, which were supplied via the Jim Henson Creature Shop.

I'm generally opposed to these Archived/MoD discs (mostly because of the high cost and lack of subtitles and/or ANY bonus materials and the few I've seen have all been single-layer transfers)...however, I had to make an exception for Larry Cohen's Wicked Stepmother (Bette Davis' last film). --Peter

Also, unfortunate that BUSTING isn't part of this sale.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
It is 16x9, and in motion it looks OK, mediocre not bad. You can check out some screencaps in the "Guess That Movie by Screenshot" thread where I posted them recently
Starts at post #517 ... please note that the "warrior woman" shot is almost certainly stock footage and as such looks a bit worse than the rest of the shots.
The movie is terrific, I watched it again recently after watching Harold and Maude again (directed by Hal Ashby after The Landlord) and it's interesting to see that The Landlord has a similar set-up with a wealthy, aimless young man getting involved with an "inappropriate" woman, the tone and plot lines are quite different though. Although there is a sequence near the end of both movies, each of which is edited in almost the exact same, distinctive way.

Re: Amazon - MGM MOD sale
Thanks, OP.
That was a fast $220:
"Toys in the Attic"
"The Outside Man"
"Not As A Stranger"
"Hickey And Boggs"
"Spellbinder"
"The Best Man (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"Trapeze (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"The Hawaiians (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"The Gallant Hours"
"Run For The Sun"
"The Big Boodle"
"The Destructors (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"Vigilante Force (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"The Glory Guys"
"The Quatermass Xperiment (aka Creeping Unknown)"
"Malone"
"Report To The Commissioner (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"The Gun Runners"
"Harry In Your Pocket (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"Rolling Thunder (MGM Limited Edition Collection)"
"Between the Lines"
This is what happens when they never put a sale on these items. I probably went overboard on titles I'd been looking at for a while.
Still passed on Burn Witch Burn though.
