Teenager hospitalized After Playing Video Games for Four Straight Days
A 15-year-old Columbus boy was hospitalized for dehydration after locking himself in his room to play an Xbox game for four consecutive days.
WCMH-TV reports that Tyler Rigby collapsed and was rushed to the hospital Tuesday after a “Modern Warfare 3” marathon that left him severely dehydrated.
“It’s like he was looking at me but he wasn’t there. It was like he was looking through me,” Jennifer Thompson, Tyler’s aunt, told WCMH. “We were talking and I heard a thump and I looked over and he just fell.”
Jessie Rawlins, Tyler’s mom, said he came out of his bedroom to eat a snack or use the bathroom.
“I was very scared. I thought he was going to die,” Rawlins told the station. “He just fell over three times.”
Tyler is expected to be OK after medics pumped his body full of fluids, but he won’t be playing video games anytime soon.
“The Xbox is gone,” Rawlins told the station.
CBS News - Cleveland
Now my first thought was...where the heck was the parents? I mean the mom is there in the house at the time of this and after four days she doesn't suspect a thing? No breakfast, lunch, or dinner, no chores, no phone calss , no TV? Good grief!!!

Someone give that boy a medal.
Dehydration can happen easily if you're not paying attention.

My first thought when reading the thread title was that this must be in Korea, but it wouldn't be news if that had been the case.

Agreed, I've played one game for the better part of a whole day before but that's just ridiculousness. Even when I was in college and could conceivably play for 2 to 3 days straight, I never wanted to. There was fresh air, girls to stalk, karakoke bars to frequent, the usual college stuff.

This definitely has much more to do with the fact that the kid has obvious obsessive/compulsive tendencies, couple that with bad/neglectful parenting and you get this. To blame it on video games would be like blaming a train for hitting someone that walks in front of it.

Bad parenting. Seriously? At what point do you decide, get off the f**king X-box, and do some homework or chores.

When I was 15 I was never even home during the summer. Who encases themselves in a video game coccoon at that age
