Shows taking a break because of the Olympics?

That is ok but I don't understand where TNT, Lifetime, & A&E takes a break from the first week of the Olympics but USA Network takes a break from the 2nd week of Olympics where the USA network has no Olympic programming though it is part of the NBC Universal family.

Because of the Olympics, Wheel Of Fortune has been pushed to something like 9 at night on the normal station in my area's sister station.

They probably don't want USA Network to cannibalize any of the potential NBC ratings.

4 years ago at the 2008 games NBC didn't own NBC Sports Network (their cable affiliate) It was called Versus and was owned by Comcast. Once Comcast bought NBC, they were able to re-brand it as the NBC sports network and didn't have to use USA for the Olympics this time around since USA has alot of scripted summer shows.

I'm guessing USA is taking next week off for some of their shows because alot of big marquee events are taking place in Prime time like Track and Field.

Strange since some networks think week 1 of the Olympics is more important and others take week 2 off.

So You Can Dance is off this week but back on next week.

Why not take 2 weeks off and concede you can't compete ratings wise with the Olympics?

I can't see this ever happening. Too many people actually work during the day so they need some sort of programming that people can come home to after and watch the popular events. Even if the games were in the US, some things would still have to be shown delayed since I'm sure multiple popular events (Swimming, Gymnastics) happen at the same time.

Maybe they are thinking after a week, people have had enough Olympics and want their normal shows back. If there are ratings charts for Olympics, maybe it shows it drops off after a week.

Re: Shows taking a break because of the Olympics?

The shows probably want to concede a week to the Olympics, but taking two weeks off is probably too much for most shows; they don't want to lose viewers by having people forget its on.

Not all the USA shows are taking the week off. Burn Notice and Suits are still doing new episodes next week.
