Major historical events or figures that you would like to see movies about?
I was in Washington, D.C. today and I was learning about. Sherman's March to the Sea, and I was surprised that there wasn't a movie (that I could think of) about it.
What historical events or figures would you like to see on the big screen?

For me, given the huge number of westerns about the Mexican Revolution that were produced in Hollywood and Italy in my youth (e.g. THE WILD BUNCH, VILLA RIDES, 100 RIFLES, THE MERCENARY, A BULLET FOR THE GENERAL, etc.), I wish there'd been one about Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus, New Mexico and the pursuit of him into Mexico by an army unit led by Pershing. That would have made an interesting movie, esp. during the Vietnam War.

Battle of Kursk- The largest tank AND aircraft battle of all time probably needs something about it besides an obscure Russian movie in the 1970s. Stalingrad is old hat.

Satan. Such a great story there and what would be a great c.g.i battle at the end.
Maybe the story is too close to home for Hollywood.

I'd like to see a biopic of philosopher/teacher, Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895-1986). He was an interesting dude.

Ira Einhorn... the hippie who founded Earth Day, was on the cover of Time Magazine, and gave outstanding Fortune 500-prone advice to businessmen... then later hacked his girlfriend to pieces. i remember Unsolved Mysteries doing a segment about his escape and capture decades later.

Alexander's siege of Tyre.
Lake Trasimene. The whole story from both sides.
The life of Plato.
A well made film about John Wesley Hardin.
I would love to see a well made film about the actual events of SOG team Alabama's insertion into Laos. The real life exploits of those men, and the fighting surrounding them, is beyond Hollywood movie stuff. Plenty of other SOG missions would be fodder for a great film.
Caesar and Versingedorix at Alesia. Again, well made film.
Hell too many to list.

Well....I can't really say what exactly but...I'd like a big epic film on WWI. Seeing Warhorse made me admire more the look and the world that WWI inhabited. Spielberg showed it off well but it wasn't the focus, obviously. I've always loved the look of the soldiers in that war.

Sherman's March would be interesting because here in the North he is a hero and in the South he is evil.
How about Spanish-American War? There was a silent movie about it and some tv-movies but how about a big budget film?
I suspect the colossal failure of The Alamo (2004) has made studios hesitant on historical epics.

Somebody needs to make a movie about the Titanic one day. It would prob be cool if they did it in 3D.

Apollo 11 moon landing. There was the From The Earth To The Moon episode and there was a TNT/TBS made for TV movie, but that's about it as far as I know.

They could make even messups lighter like a movie on Soyuz 2 could be done in a Benny Hill way where they find over 100 faults but send the guy up anyway, then the Benny Hill theme starts playing when nothing works and the guy starts screaming on reentry and the open casket funeral is a burnt log
