10 insanely tough games

http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged...211451468.html

The List

10. Battletoads (NES)
9. QWOP (PC/Flash)
8. Demon's Soul (PS3)
7. Contra (NES)
6. The Oregon Trail (Various)
5. The Heist (iOS)
4. Super Mario Bros : The Lost Levels (Famicon)
3. Trials HD (XBLA)
2. Ghosts 'n Goblins (Arcade/NES)
1. I Wanna Be The Guy (Flash)

Only game on the list that I played is Demon's Soul which can be frustrated difficult at the time and you do really die alot, I was able to beat the game, so it's really not that bad. The Oregon Trail that hard? Guess I have to download it from freeware and tried it out.

Wait. You haven't played Contra or Ghosts 'n Goblins? Check this guy's ID.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

TMNT on NES should be on that list only for the damn underwater bomb level.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

Well Battletoads definitely needs to be on there as does Contra (admit it….without the code its pretty tough). I never played Ghouls N’ Ghosts but Super Ghouls N’ Ghosts on SNES was almost impossible.

I'm undecided on Demon's Souls because there were alot of character builds that allowed you to level fast and become invincible about a third into the game.

And yeah, TMNT belongs on there.

Yeah, that TMNT level was a killer. I remember playing Battletoads over and over too, those fast levels were nuts.

I remember finishing TMNT and Ghosts & Goblins.

Contra is impossible without the cheat code. Don't recall ever playing Battletoads.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

I role my eyes when I see Demon Souls on a list like this. Part of the game is you die...it is built into the way the game is played.... but it should be no problem for anyone enjoying themselves to beat it.

QWOP is just stupid, and has no reason being on a list like this..

How about Diablo 3 Inferno with only gear you farm yourself....that shits all over Demon Souls...

Re: 10 insanely tough games

I agree; IMO, DS isn't even in the same ballpark as some of the old NES games in terms of difficulty. Especially when it has areas like 4-2 where you can farm souls without breaking a sweat.

The Oregon Trail is actually a pretty easy game. I think nostalgia has falsely clouded our minds into thinking it was a hard game. Most of us played this game in elementary school in the 1980s, and back then all we cared about was killing buffalo instead of actually trying to play the game right and get to Oregon. A few years ago, I found the game on a ROM site and wanted to replay it as an adult, so I played it and found it to be rather easy. I made it to Oregon on my first try.

He's probably just a young guy that didn't grow up with the NES, especially if the only game on the list he has played is a PS3 game.

It's not actually. I got so good at the game I could beat it without dying at all. I'm not really trying to brag either since I wasn't really a good gamer as a kid. There were more games that I never could beat than games that I could beat (without cheating at least). If I could beat Contra without dying, I am fairly sure a lot of people could do it, because I sucked. I never even could beat the original Legend of Zelda as a kid. I didn't beat it until I was in my teens. Speaking of which, why isn't Legend of Zelda 2 on this list? That game was notorious for its brutal difficulty. I never even made it to the second dungeon in that game when I was a kid.

Where the fuck is Ninja Gaiden for the NES. This list sucks if it doesn't have that. That game was horrible. I never did finish it.

Anytime I ever actually got through TMNT's underwater level I was so mentally and physically fried I could never figure out how to get through the next section.

I loved that game but finally had to give up before I drove myself insane and broke everything in the house. Luckily I was just a kid then so it was just my parent's stuff I broke.

Another vote for Battletoads. That jet ski level had to be the worst (hardest) level I have ever played in a game. I gave up on that game way before I ever did on Ninja Gaiden because I knew I would never get past it. The fact that I last played it over 20 years ago and I can still see that level in my head says something.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

I could never beat Battletoads...I spent one week on that in college trying over and over before I finally gave up..

Contra I never beat without the code, but I think I could have if I spent enough time on it....

There's actually more than one jet ski level in Battletoads...

I distinctly remember it because it took me ages to get past the first jet ski level, and then when I got to the second jet ski level I was all like "fuck this shit" and threw the controller across the room. I'm pretty sure it was the first time I ever swore in my life.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

I was able to beat Contra w/o cheat codes once.

I don't think I got past the 3rd ghost on level 1 in Super G&G.

Did anyone play Athena on NES? That was pretty hard, and I think buggy near the end.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

I made it to one of the last levels in Battletoads. I know I passed two jet ski levels. I was climbing up a tower with rotating platforms when I died, and after that I don't think I could bear to pick up the game again.

Contra I have actually beaten without dying a few times, but that was after playing the shit out of the game.

Re: 10 insanely tough games

I'm really proud that when I was a preteen I beat Battletoads. I even had a VHS tape somewhere of me beating it (along with 2-4 of the Mega Mans) Wait why isn't Mega Man 3 on there? Isn't that considered to be the hardest old school Mega Man?

Ninja Gaiden isn't an insanely tough game though. I'd say tough but manageable. The only thing that really sucked balls was the final boss battle. Dumping you back three levels was a total bitch move. Never did beat him.

I'd give a nod to the original Mega Man.

Yup. Oregon trail was quite easy.

I'd add a few to the list:
The Karate Kid (NES)
Double Dragon 3 (NES)
