What the heck happened to my 46'' Samsung 1080p LCD TV (pics included)?!
What the heck happened to my TV? I have a 46'' LCD Samsung LN46A630M1F. I've owned it for about 4-5 years now. I was streaming a Dexter episode via HDMI last night and during a scene the TV screen started to flicker off and on (the screen didn't go black and then back on, it's just the screen imaging got darker and you could tell something was flickering behind the scenes - I thought it was the encoding of the episode at first) for a couple of minutes, and then the screen now currently looks like I'm in some kind of "thermal imaging" mode. The colors are all messed up (see pics below). It's like something burned out. I don't watch a lot of TV. My TV will sit there unused for 1-2 months without me turning it on for example. It would seem like some kind of bulb burnt out in it, which I find odd as the life of these TVs is suppose to be very long in terms of hours, and as I said I don't use it a whole lot. I'm going to take it to a nearby Samsung servicing center. Can anybody offer any preliminary diagnosis? Thanks.

Yeah, the pics are of broadcast television. At first I thought it was the .mkv file, then I looked at my computer and the screen was fine. It doesn't matter what I"m watching but everything is friggin' "Predator vision" right now. It's gotta be some kind of bulb that has burned out...

It's not a bulb, it's something with one of the boards in the TV. I don't know if it's a loose connection or if the entire board needs to be replaced, but I've seen this happen often.

On my plasma, it was the LVDS cable. I had mine replaced and it cost with labor $160. The part is only 20ish. Try reseating the cable

I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to do that. Even though I build my own PCs, TVs are a completely different animal to me. I might try searching Youtube, but I think I might just have to eat the cost and take it into the service center. It's $50 down to get an estimate, and that can then be applied towards the repair.

I was very helpful that you let us know you took the pic with your ipad and even included the model. People really love their apple stuff!

Maybe it's relevant because he was using one of the filters on the Photo Booth app? My kids like to use that Predator-Vision one all the time.

If you're comfortable with taking the back off, you could do that and just check everything that has something plugged into it, making sure nothing's come loose. Otherwise have someone look at it.

Ok thanks for the input guys I'll bite the bullet and pay the $50 and take it in somewhere maybe later this week. No rush since I barely use the thing... but it will definitely be cheaper than buying a new one.

You may want to call a few shops or use google for TV repair shops in your zip code and see if you can find one that will give a free estimate.
I easily found a shop that would give a free estimate if I brought it to the shop or charge $40 to come to my home for an estimate. I called and emailed the pics of the issue. He said it could be boards or a bad or unseated cable causing the video problem. If it were 1 or 2 boards, then it would be better to by a new TV, cost-wise.
I asked about the free estimate if I chose not to get the repairs done when I go there and he confirmed it.

Unfortunately I only have one authorized Samsung replacement dealer in my city :/ I took it there today. They seem like I reputable place. Here's hoping the repair is fairly priced...

Hi,
This JUST happened to my same model TV about a week ago. Did you ever find out what the problem was and how much it would cost to fix? We're trying to decide if it's worth trying to fix.
Thanks for any info you have!

From reading the manual, you have apparently selected Kubrick, Mann, or Scott Mode.

Interestingly, my LED HDTV does something very similar, especially with red and orange colors, for some reason they bleed like crazy. I must have to adjust something in settings.
