Guardians of the Galaxy (2014, Gunn) S: Pratt, Zaldana, Bautista, Cooper, Diesel
via Bleeding Cool:
Now....we've known Feige digs the idea of GotG film (based off the 2008 team). But this sounds like they're kind of getting serious on it. Anyway..if they do go ahead w/ it. We'd need a thread, so here it is.
GotG are a team of interstellar heroes that will be proactive in protecting the galaxy, rather than reacting to crises as they happen.
All levels of popularity for this property hit the most stable and current incarnation of the group which is pretty badass too. And, yes. There's a fucking raccoon that shoots guns (and smokes cigars). Who's also OCD and in voiced incarnations has a cockney accent (who kind of sounds like Ray Winstone...and it'd be awesome if he was cast as that)
It’s rumoured there will be a film. It’s rumoured there will be a Brian Bendis comic book after Avengers Vs X-Men.
Either way, Marvel Comics have just filed eleven new trademark applications for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY covering everything from jewelery to beverages to furniture to cosmetics. The applications cover International Classes 3, 14, 16, 20, 24, 29, 30, 32, 35, 41, 42, and also include computer games, fabrics, foods, paper goods, entertainment and internet services, and even retail store services.
Basically, everything the galaxy, Marvel want to be the guardians of. But then again, haven’t they always?

I'm not familiar with the 2008 team and had a few issues of the 90's title run. Are they vastly different teams?

That'd be these guys:
Yeah, the older team are actually a whole different team from the future. The more current team is well...the current team of our time. the current team has had solid writing on the stories. Also they had a huge event w/ Thanos, that essentially formed the team somewhat. Was a big deal. Pretty epic and very well presented. They were also presented in the great Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (that will be cancelled cuz Disney sucks) in one episode most recently.

I have the first 30 or so issues of the 1990 series...
I liked that team... but this team looks... looks... more modern.

Really? People want to see a talking racoon? Its like hoping Snarf will be a major character in a live action Thundercats movie. Hopefully Marvel is smart and leaves Rocket Racoon out. Maybe a tiny cameo if anything.

I liked the original Guardians much better than the new ones who will be the stars of this movie. I always thought of Guardians of the Galaxy as Marvel's poor attempt to copy the Legion of Superheroes. I suspect this movie will end up way more sci-fi than comic book fantasy.

Also a fan of the original Guardians. I always liked the idea of a resistance force fighting the occupiers in a sci-fi setting.

I'm vaguely familiar with some of these characters---I really enjoyed Marvel's Annihilation event a few years ago. I like Marvel's cosmic characters.

If you are going to have this movie, you have to have rocket raccoon, he is essentially a 'leader'

After watching the game clip featuring that annoying raccoon, I have no desire to see this.

In the comics, Thanos was killed by Drax (the green guy w/ tattoos...who was also created for the sole purpose of killing Thanos too) in a GotG related tale. Granted...death of villains don't last long so...you never know if they use Thanos for some association w/ GotG.

Whereas that version of the team looks... very 90's.
Yeah, my kid brother and I loved the original GotG when we were kids. The recent series was really good, though, and brought back a lot of old space/cosmic characters, including Star-Lord, Vance Astro, and former Micronaut Bug.

Yeah i see the Drax - Thanos connection being used in Avengers 2. Possibly have cameos or something along those lines in Thor 2 / Captain America 2 / Iron Man 3 (Doubtful at this state for this one though i guess), then maybe more of an introduction in Avengers 2.
I would love to see Adam Warlock being part of this team as well as Gladiator. They were both pretty cool characters from the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe.

I wonder if Fox could bring in the Shi'ar to counter the Chitauri in the Avengers universe. Not that Lilandra and Death Bird are big villains, but it could open up the better version of the Dark Phoenix saga and introduce the Imperial Guard to run opposite a GotG movie. I'm sure some Fox executive is thinking about it.
Though I'd rather see the introduction of Vindicator and Alpha Flight since they did the Weapon X story. Although, if they are going with the rumored Days of Future Past story, I guess there could be the possibility of seeing members of Excalibur and X-Force.
Quite scary, isn't it, to know that Fox may possibly have the rights to so many of the mutants' story lines?

Damn... with Marvel's other big properties still at other studios, they now have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for their own movies.

I was a Star Lord fan and read the Claremont-Byrne story many times. I only recently found another story in the Marvel Firsts TPB.
