Re: The Killing -- "Sayonara, Hiawatha" -- 5/20/12

Not a fan of the family drama subplots (so tired of Mitch), but Brent Sexton has nailed every scene he's been in. Guy deserves an Emmy nod. (As does Joel Kinnaman.)

And despite some more eye-rolling moments--especially Holder and Linden's return visit to the casino...REALLY??--I really enjoyed the episode. Holder owns every scene he's in, and while I still think she's the World's Worst Detective, Linden has grown on me a bit with her breakdowns (woman was pretty much a robot up to this point).

Still utterly predictable and occasionally frustrating, but looking forward to the next few episodes.

Uh, shouldn't have Rosie's real dad have caught wind of her murder?

Re: The Killing -- "Sayonara, Hiawatha" -- 5/20/12

Mitch has been the saving grace for me for so many episodes. She's the character I connect to the most because her storyline seems the most real in a show where characters undergo personality changes minute to minute. I wanted more of her storyline. I find Stan's storyline so uninteresting because we know the boys will act out and he'll lash out, but later apologize.

The last fifteen minutes or so were suspenseful and indicate what the show could have been if the writers had a master plan and didn't succumb to contrivances and what the hell? moments. The show is still sloppy as indicated above. Rose's dad would know about her. There is no way Linden would get into the casino. The show is so incredibly sloppy, but this episode makes up for last week's awful episode.

Still hanging in there with this show. Lots of holes in the show's logic, but I want to know who the murderer is.

So either the blood-stained City Hall passcard is yet another red herring (sigh), or those involved with Rosie's murder were too stupid/blind that with 3 weeks to do a proper clean-up of the crime scene - they still did such a shitty job that Linden was able to find the passcard within minutes... and in the dark with a measly flashlight.

Gwen was raped by the current Mayor when she was 14. Sure, why not? Yet another secret revealed from a character.

Not sure how Rosie's biological father didn't hear about her death. It was a pretty big news item as it implicated someone running for Mayor for a while.

I was hoping Linden would put her hair down and take some of those sweaters off to get into the casino. She is so easily identifiable.

Maybe a setup for the mayor being the murderer. He likes little girls.

I think Mitch said she traveled 4 hours to get to the dude's house so it's not unreasonable that he didn't hear about the murder. I'm 4 hours from Washington DC and never hear about murders there on any individual level.

Can't believe there are still 4 episodes left. The passcard has to be another red herring.

Is this the first episode that they mentioned Linden had been in a psych ward? 'Cause suddenly it all makes sense.

If a politician was arrested for a murder and he was shot, everyone would have heard about the case. It would be the biggest story in the country.

He was a city councilman. Meh.

Since every clue this episode points to the mayor, and we still have quite a few episodes until the season, you can mark him off your list as a suspect.

A city councilman running for mayor of a major U.S. city getting arrested for murdering a teenage girl and later shot outside City Hall by a friend of the murdered girl's family...yeah, not newsworthy at all.

I have to say this show is getting laborious.

Never said it wasn't newsworthy. If it happened 4 hours from me and I didn't pay attention to such stories, it is believable. You could ask 10 people on the street about the Trayvon Martin case and I bet you at least 3 of them would have no idea what you are talking about. And that's national.

Never heard of that case. It must have happened more than 4 hours away from me.

You must be one of the three. Case in point.

Pretty much. This formula grew tired after the 3rd or 4th episode of Season 1. So much evidence pointing one way, then a convenient explanation to throw it all out the window. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I stopped watching 4 episodes ago or so, but I keep reading the threads. Seeing all the fun you are having, I think I'll come back for the season finale.

I'm pretty sure somebody could watch the pilot and the season 2 finale (likely the series finale) back to back without missing much.

Ugh...this show is really dragging. I find myself surfing the web while watching just to keep myself from being bored to tears. And yet, since I've invested all this time, I feel like I need to know who the killer is. But after this season, I'm done.

Day 323: "Well it turns out that Rosie isn't a space alien at all. However...DRAMATIC PAUSE...she is a demon!"

Isn't the show done after this season?

I'm so tired of seeing Linden in the exact same clothes every episode driving around in the rain.

And remind me never to go to Seattle? I feel damp thinking about it.

I mentioned in another thread that this show really isn't doing Seattle tourism any favours. 22 days in a row it's rained. Just waiting for the cliched sun to come out after they catch the killer and the Larsons are moving forward with their lives as a family.

That scene in the casino was awesome. I loved the delivery of "Sayonara, Hiawatha" and the flick of the cigarette.
