i was thinking about these 3 Michaels for some reason and realized they have had similar career paths of late, with maybe Shannon in more obscure, but dedicated roles. i really like them all and would probably pick Fassbender, after seeing Shame, coupled with his versatility, as my Oscar favorite next.

so which Michael if not one of these 3 do you think will recieve gold first?

I'd like to see Fassbender win one.

They're all fully capable, though. Sheen was great in "The Damned United", and that's coming from someone who hates soccer.

i agree, don't like soccer, but loved that movie. he was also great in Frost/Nixon.

My vote goes for Michael Shannon. I think he'll stick to leading roles in small films and will eventually grab an Oscar for one of those.

Yeah, Shannon will get one first. I love Fassbender and don't see enough of Sheen in general but Shannon is on a goddamn rol w/ his work. Take Shelter..fucking amazing work.

Fassbener.

Sheen may eventually pick something up down the line, but Shannon will be another Gary Oldman when it comes to mass respect.

I'll go with the Michaels that wasn't in an Underworld movie. So I'll say Fassbender.

Shannon was in an Underworld movie?

No. Sheen was automatically disqualified, so I chose Fassbender over Shannon.

One thing that will help Shannon though is once The Man of Steel arrives, the general audience will finally realize he exists. He's still very much under the radar.

Those are three exceptionally talented actors. But I think it will be Fassbender as he's on track to become another "great" actor and that, along with acting ability, is also tied to looks and the guy is ridiculous looking. Not that Sheen and Shannon aren't sharp looking cats but...come on.

Shannon was basically nominated in the wrong year. He had no shot at beating Ledger, even though I thought he was superb in "Revolutionary Road". His performance in "Take Shelter" was certainly good enough for a nomination.

As with every other poll like this, it depends on the role, the movie, the year, and the competition.

the best actor of the bunch = shannon

the first to get an oscar = fassbender

Shannon will win a best supporting oscar first. Then Fassbender will win best actor. Sheen shoots himself in the foot by seemingly taking everything that comes his way.

I agree with this. Fassbender is more embraceable by the masses than Shannon.

Sheen's work in "Beautiful Boy" was nomination worthy if you ask me.

All three had amazing performances in 2012

Sheen: Beautiful Boy
Fassbender: Shame
Shannon: Take Shelter

Shannon was a solid notch above the other two though. Also, he's quite funny at times on the commentary, laughing how while filming a very crucial dramatic scene that all he was thinking is "the sun's in my eyes, I'm probably ruining the take."

There was an article recently about how "studs" don't tend to win Oscars. However, the same article mentioned that Fassbender could be an exception because he's not really a "star." http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/oscars/studs-don-t-win-oscars-223739314.html

I have no idea which, if any, will win first, but I'll guess Shannon.

I stumbled upon the 1966 movie Triple Cross on TCM a week or so ago and couldn't help but notice the striking resemblance Fassbender has to a young Christopher Plummer!
