Really just a mediocre season finale for me. I have a five year rule with most shows as I find they get into rehash mode and BBT is no exception. Just an okay season for me.

For all the buildup of the wedding and the launch over the season, this was pretty ho-hum.

Can't believe that Jim Parsons just turned 40. I'd say he is late 20s/early 30s.

Agree about the mediocrity, but I still enjoy most of the episodes, although they are definitely not as great as some of the earlier ones. As long as Penny is still on, I'll keep watching...

This was the season finale? I wasn't paying attention half the time. All the rocket stuff fell incredibly flat, and the wedding plot was boring. I don't expect a lot from this show, and in return, I'd like the show not to expect me to care about the characters. This is a Chuck Lorre show, after all.

That's what I was thinking. They should have had some sort of cliffhanger, like the rocket malfunctioning during lift off.

I would think that a civilian going into space would've been a much bigger deal, but that's just a nitpick.

The wedding was just awful.

I did like the final scene, with everyone watching the launch. Even Sheldon was getting emotional, holding hands with Amy.

For a wedding episode I thought it was done well. They did a good job of giving each character the right amount of attention. Not a fantastic finale but good enough IMO.

You don't have to be in the military to be an astronaut. A lot of the mission specialist are civilians who are really knowledge in there field. Most work for NASA though I guess Howard does too through the university (he could control the Mars Rover.)

So you believe that this epic nerd is nailing the hot piece of blond ass across the hall, but the fact that Howard is a civilian going into space, gives you pause?

I thought it was kinda sweet in a way. I mean there is a real danger the guy could die. That would make me a little emotional.

Re: The Big Bang Theory -- Season Finale -- "The Countdown Reflection" -- 5/10/12

I read a couple articles where everyone was so emotional for the finale and tears were abound.

Really? Did I watch the right finale?

I'm ok with it. Wasn't expecting much of the finale anyway but the off-camera up-sell by the cast and creators failed to deliver big time.

I think everyone holding hands at the end was kind of sweet

That is what was being referenced in the articles. I thought that it was sweet as well. Here is Lorre's card on it:

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #389

This may sound silly, but I had to stifle tears when we wrote the last scene of tonight's episode. The same thing happened when we rehearsed it. And then again when it was performed in front of a studio audience. And yet again when we watched the final version in an editing bay. I don't know what it is, but there's something primal, something deeply human being expressed when these characters unconsciously hold hands while watching their friend embark on a monumental journey. Speaking of which, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for watching The Big Bang Theory, for being part of our journey. I hope you've laughed a lot and stifled a little. I hope you're holding someone's hand. See you next year.

Which is why I was surprised that the show was actually good once. It really hasn't been anything better than mediocre for quite some time. It gets a bit of a pass because we already like the characters IMO. But it's almost got the same horrible dialog and lazy, juvenile writing as Two and Half Men.

Yeah, I don't get how the ending is supposed to be so have so much emotional impact.

Maybe if a voice had come over on the television that they had lost contact with the Soyuz capsule, and ended it there with everyone holding hands, it might have been something. (Even though we, the viewers, would know Howard wasn't in any danger.)

The end was pretty cliched, but it worked for me.

The rest of the episode fell pretty flat though. The only thing going for it was Bernadette in her wedding dress. Then again, it just points out how lame it is that Hollywood slaps glasses on a hot blonde and expects the audience to buy her as a scientist/nerd.

Re: The Big Bang Theory -- Season Finale -- "The Countdown Reflection" -- 5/10/12

The end was definitely cliched, but seeing Sheldon holding Amy's hand showing awe for Howard's achievement (and maybe even a little bit of concern and worry) was a nice touch. Sheldon would normally just downplay the significance of the event out of sheer jealousy.

I know we're not supposed to see Howard's mom, but what excuse did they give for her being seated so far away from the ceremony? And was Bernadette's mom there? Was anyone else there at all? They zoomed out right at the end and you couldn't see anyone else on the roof - including Bernadette's father. The whole wedding scene felt weird.

His mom didn't want to fall off the roof so she sat in the back, which is weird cause I would think that's near the other ledge.

Soyuz spacecraft lifted off from Kazakhstan today. Didn't know there was actually one going up this week. Howard was replaced by a Russian for this launch.

Re: The Big Bang Theory -- Season Finale -- "The Countdown Reflection" -- 5/10/12

I liked this episode very much. I liked that Penny was really in character and getting laughs with her facial expressions. Bailek (sp?) kills as always, nice Kligon bits and a great mix of sweet and funny. Nice they got to replay perhaps the funniest line of the season, with the best delivery, Bernadette's father assuring Howard that things will be OK without him.
