Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

Just wondering what the worst spoilers were for you as movie goers.

My worst was not a movie, but rather a TV show. When I was gearing up for 24 (I think the 5th season), EW ran a side note revealing
Spoiler:
President Palmer's death
. I was pissed to no end.

Some douche also flat out spoiled the ending of I Am Legend the day I was going to see it in theaters.

I'm still pissed at "Premiere" magazine for running a photo from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves:

Spoiler:
Showing Sean Connery's surprise cameo

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

When the BCC Office Christmas special came out on DVD the back of the box showed
Spoiler:
Tim and Dawn passionately kissing
which kind of took the air out of the tension of their storyline. The ending would have been a lot more powerful had I not already been made aware of the outcome.

I'll never forget the summer of '99, when the previews for Castaway and What Lies Beneath gave away so much I was sitting in the theater feeling like I had already seen the movie.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

Yeah, the first trailer for Cast Away was cool, then they felt the need to follow it up with a new one showing the end of the movie?

And What Lies Beneath didn't give everything away, but it did reveal that a plotline that took over half the film was just a red herring.

And how about the trailer for Arlington Road? The commentary for that film is hilarious, because Jeff Bridges is so pissed that it gave so much away and keeps raving about it.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

Watching Godfather (my first time) with my dad (circa 1984), and right when it goes to Jack Woltz before waking up in his bed, my dad says to me
Spoiler:
"his horse's head is in his bed with him"
, and I'm like, "gee, thanks dad".

I also got a spoiler for Return of the Jedi, just before it came out, a friend had read the book adaptation, which came out a month or so before the movie and he told me that Luke & Leia were brother & sister.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

*Spoilers galore, of course*

I never saw Usual Suspects in it's theatrical release,
Spoiler:
but some dumb reporter (The day after The Oscars) said that "Kevin Spacey won the award for playing Keyser Soze!"

The secret of The Crying Game just could NOT be contained.

The Phantom Menace soundtrack-"QGJ's Funeral"

Wasn't it announced to the public that certain characters would die in Star Trek's Wrath of Khan and Generations? I seem to remember already knowing who they were as I was watching those movies for the first time.

The VHS version of I Know What You Did Last Summer had the trailer for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer before the movie. Yes, it gave most of the info on the killer away.

Thankfully I didn't like those movies at all anyway. Just thought it was odd at the time.

I still don't recall this, but my friend swears that after Fight Club came out, I told him the twist and claimed it wouldn't ruin the movie for him.

He still tells people that story.

Probably Psycho. I wish I could've watched it without knowing anything.

When I was in grade school, a kid spoiled EMPIRE STRIKES BACK for me. Since then, I've been a "first weekend" movie guy for films I really wanted to see.

Yep, both Spock and Kirk's deaths were well-publicized. However, both movies had scenes early on where the character "dies" (Spock in the simulator test/Kirk in the Enterprise-B), so a lot of people seeing those films thought they had been tricked and the characters weren't really going to die after all.

The end of The Sixth Sense. The end of season 4 of Dexter (and that was the night it aired, not like it was on DVD or anything).

The end of season 4 for Dexter was spoiled for me by the actress involved (who wouldn't shut up about it).

Roger Ebert gave the film a four-star rating and described it as one that "involves us deeply in the story, and then it reveals that the story is really about something else altogether."[4] Later, during Siskel and Ebert's annual "Memo to the Academy" program, Gene Siskel gave away the surprise twist of the film while giving his review, which infuriated Ebert.

I never knew that.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

It's so dumb, but we were avid 90210 watchers in college. I somehow read on an internet bulletin board (this was in the late 90s) that Rebecca Gayheart's character died about six months before it happened. She married Dylan and throughout the whole courtship I just keep thinking "It's not going to last." It was actually a pretty big twist when it finally happened and it sucked that I knew about it. Of course, it was also just 90210.

Since then I'm pretty stringent about spoilers and manage to avoid them for the most part. I try not to get too backed up on my DVR with serialized shows and I see movies I really care about on opening weekend without reading reviews.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

Zap2it spoiled Saw III for me. I usually get caught up with each movie via DVD (new movie released in October - I would watch the DVD several months down the road).

Anyways, I was catching up on my Comic Con news. I went to the Comic Con section on Zap2it and in the HEADLINE, they post something along the lines of:

Spoiler:
"Jigsaw to return to Saw IV despite dying in III"

So it's not like I wandered into a Saw article. I was just getting my Comic Con updates for the day. Terrible. I hate Zap2it.

End of the Sixth Sense.

I didn't get in to the hype when the movie initially came out but when I was in high school a friend of mine spoiled it and from that point I had no interest in ever seeing it.

The Village, which was still a problem because at that point I liked M. Night's films.

The New York Times always has spoilers in their reviews, so I never read them.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

My sister, flicking channels one day years ago, stopped on The Shawshank Redemption. "You should see this!"
- "Is it far in?"
"No, not at all."

It was two minutes before
Spoiler:
Andy escapes.

Also, Keyser Soze.

Re: Worst thing ever spoiled for you about a movie or TV show?

I'm pretty good about catching people before they spoil a movie for me but occasionally I get caught of guard by someone blurting out a spoiler before I had a chance to stop them. A couple in recent years are:

The infamous cameo in Zombieland. I think it may have actually been on this forum in a thread that had absolutely nothing to do with Zombieland.

Spiderman 3
Spoiler:
Harry's death
The fucker who spoiled this blurted it out on opening weekend right after I told him I was planning on seeing it that night!

Battlestar Galactica

Spoiler:
I googled Chief Tyrol to find the actor who played him and one auto-complete result was "Chief Tyrol is a Cylon"

Thanks to the news media, everyone knew the ending to Million Dollar Baby.

Not a show or movie but Book 6 of Harry Potter I read an article in the newspaper
Spoiler:
Dumbledores murdered by Snape

That one pissed me off to no end.

A friend's mom ruined that one for me. I was talking about
Spoiler:
Sirius's death and how much it bummed me out
and she said,
Spoiler:
But there are pictures of him everywhere, so he'll still be there!

I was not happy with her.

That's a good one. I never had much interest in seeing it, but no I have zero interest. It's also weird that it seemed like everyone was so casual about spoiling this movie for some reason from the moment it came out it seemed.

I will admit Million Dollar Baby saved me a theater ticket; I eventually saw it on DVD and it was as lackluster as it sounded.
