I thought Lucrezia poisoned Juan's wine at the end.

I don't think she poisoned his wine but they made it seem like she was going to. Is Juan gone off to Spain now?

That's what she wanted him to think. She was just fucking with him.

I have to be careful here at work talking about this show. One of my co-workers is a devout Catholic and he takes umbrage to what is being portrayed, whether fact or fiction. Like last season I asked if they really did have the 'Pope to be' sit in a bottomless chair for the doctor to verify that there were male. Man did that make him see red. Me, I thought I was asking an innocent question as I don't really know. I did think it amusing, both the scene on TV and the scene he made at the office.

Yes, I believe that chair was real. Why would this guy get mad about that?

I'm missing something. Last season, King Charles was about to take Rome but was charmed by the Pope and "given" Naples. So Charles heads to Naples and everyone is stricken with the plague. So why is Charles pissed at the Pope again? I've read what little episode recaps I can find and can't seem to put the pieces together. The Pope did not spread the plague. Did the Pope know the plague was there and sent the King there to die of it?

Yeah, I've heard about the special chair, too.

Allegedly, they once elected a woman Pope (Pope Joan) and after that someone had to jiggle the Pope-elect's balls before he got the big hat.

Yes, I'm fairly certain that was the plan.

What's really interesting is that this show's portrayal of Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia) is very sympathetic.

There are many salacious tales of the Borgia depravity, though their accuracy is in dispute.

Seems like a pope having not only a mistress, but a menage a troi could be consider rather salacious.

Salacious, possibly. But does that mean it didn't happen? Historical accounts would indicate that Rogrigo participated in all sorts of sexual encounters.

Banquet of Chestnuts

I guess good Catholics are just supposed to ACT as if their Popes were all chaste men of God even if they were the farthest from it.
