Battleship may be the best "summer" action movie I see this year. Peter Berg here channels Michael Bay at his peak, and ruthlessly edits down Bay's penchant for bad romance and worse humor. The result is one of the shortest 2+ hour Hard R films I can remember seeing. (Don't worry, Hasbro has retained Steve Jablonsky so you still get the big, brassy score any alien/robot movie deserves).
Everything about it is ridiculous, and it's absolutely wonderful.

The were giving out free tickets when my girlfriend and I were at the Hollywood Farmer's Market and they were basically begging people to take them. It was kind of funny. I grabbed a pair but never went cause I didn't feel like going out. I bet they'll do another screening.

I know this was released in other markets of the world already. I have no hopes for this to be any good.

I think we need to have a poll added.
The Bus, when I saw you post that you had seen it I was gonna ask your opinion of it but this works too

I saw it and thought it was ok... nothing special, just ok. I enjoyed it cause I was in the Navy as well and station on board the USS IOWA-BB61 a battle ship. I loved that ship... =)

This is awesome. Universal is suing The Asylum or Global Asylum for the release of their upcoming DTV movie..."American Battleship" starring Mario Van Peebles and Carl Weathers. They are alleging copyright infringement.

Yeah, I saw that. Good. Anything to stop crappy movies from being made. In seriousness...I've no idea what'll come of this. Does Asylum even make enough?+

Bumping this reviews thread since this officially opens tomorrow.
Popcorntree, you can blame The Bus for this.
This movie has gotten shit on over and over in this forum.
Can't wait to see this Saturday.

I'm interested in this mainly because they have not really shown too much in trailers/commercials. Not sure what to expect, and I like that.

I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but I liked it. It's been getting a lot of comparisons to the TRANSFORMERS films (it's better than any of the three of them), but it's really more of a cross between INDEPENDENCE DAY and TOP GUN. It's mindless fun...but it WAS fun. I'd recommend it.

I saw a matinee today as well and the theatre I was in at around 4pm was at about 60% capacity.
I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best summer action blockbuster I've ever seen, but I thought Berg did a good job directing and there was some really spectacular special effects.
I kind of agree with Shannon's comment that the Transformers comparison wasn't really right. And I liked 2 of the 3 movies. I thought it was a little mix of Independence Day, Battle: LA and maybe even a little bit of Pearl Harbor.
My main criticism was Taylor Kitsch. I liked him as Riggins on Friday Night Lights, but he cannot carry a movie like this to save his life. Very flat performance and he showed no range at all. Brooklyn Decker is very nice to look at, but I didn't buy her at all as his love interest. They had no chemistry. And yeah Liam Neeson's appearance was pretty much an over-glorified cameo.
But, when all is said and done, the special effects and the battle sequences were pretty awesome.
I got a good laugh when:
Overall, it was fun and I would recommend it if you enjoy shit blowing up and lots of special effects. I'd give it a B-
