Calvin (Paul Dano) is a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing – as well as his romantic life. Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him. When Calvin finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have turned into a living, breathing person.

Yeah, I've seen the trailer. Just not sure if it's something I'd dig or not. It treads on that line. I won't watch it in theaters but on BD at some point.

Dano doesn't seem to have changed a bit since Girl Next Door. Amazing how much difference him having glasses makes.

Actually if you pay attention to the facebook page we've somewhat agreed that we're surprised you're not as good looking as we assumed. I'm still let down. I expected better.

Yes. We've one in case something fucks up here and we freak out. It's a heads up page mostly to uh...give you a heads up when the page is down and we're freaking out as to why. Rarely used...mostly in emergencies...which aren't emergencies but we like to freak out.

I like Dano. Even in 'Being Flynn', a flawed film, he delivered.
Every gave 'Ruby sparks' a positive, 3 star review today.

I just clicked in because I was wondering why a movie I'd never heard of had so many posts rotfl

Normally if a thread has a lot of posts it's because of two things:
1) Hot photo of a babe
2) People are debating something, and a few of them have chosen to go to war over their viewpoints. ;)

Anyway...
Saw this today, and really enjoyed it. Only went because the theater was running B1G1 and this fit with my schedule. Surprised I liked it and even the ending was less straightforward than I thought (although it got to where I thought it would: Central Character Learns a Lesson About Life And Stuff™).

Finally got around to this one. It's cute, if a little twee. The movie meanders in the last third, but it's well acted and has a great cameo from Antonio Banderas.

twee?

And the more I think about it, the more I feel like this is a missed opportunity. It starts off well, but ends up repeating tropes that are all too similar. I'd recommend skipping this one in favor of Celeste and Jesse Forever.

Saw this last night through Netflix. A three star movie at best, but still entertaining overall, mainly due to the supporting characters. I think the movie thought it was being a bit more clever than it was, and I don't think having the screenwriter play the title character really added anything in that regard. The last third seemed like they didn't know whether to be conventional or take a dark Twilight Zone approach.
I have to give credit to Dano, he is quite a good actor. He can play the shy guy, but with this he also showed a lot of shades of old school James Spader, especially toward the end. He's also managed to hold his own rather well with Daniel Day-Lewis, so that elevates him a bit IMO.
