While I do wish we could have gotten seasons sets (or a complete series set), I understand that with variety shows, we have to make do with what we can get.

At least I will have some news for the large number of people that have come into my store asking about DVDs for the show...

Were there musical guests on Carol Burnett? I don't recall any, just all sketches. Otherwise I'm not sure why they can't do season sets.

Yes, there were- including this, which was a "mystery" clip to me for a while on an old Beta tape I uncovered- this is all of that show that was recorded on this tape, but it was from the Carol Burnett show:

This show did make it onto one of the mail-order DVDs, I'll buy it just to see the whole show finally! (I guess leaving in the original commercials would be too much to ask?) This comes out a few days before my 40th birthday, so hopefully I'll be able to get the 20-disc set!

What you're referring to was the repackaged syndicated series Carol Burnett and Friends, which basically strung together a collection of sketches from 1972-77 to fill out a half-hour running time (the original episodes with the musical numbers were an hour each).

I was only born in 1974, so it'd be even later syndication than that. Not sure what I watched, but I do recall Burnett, et all, doing sketches.

There were 278 shows in 11 years from 1967-1978 that were approx. 50 min. each. You would need about 70 single-sided DVD's (35 double-sided - but who want's that?). Or, about 10 dual-layer BD's to fit everything.

It looks like they're doing 3 episodes per disc for the 2-disc and the 6-disc sets. The 20-disc set can only be split up as 2.5 episodes per disc so halfway through a show you have to go to the next disc. At 4 per disc they could fit the 50 shows and the 10 hours of bonus material on 13 DVD's.

As old as these shows are and with the mono soundtracks, I really don't see the problem with 4 per disc (200 min.).
