With the exception of Sabbath, almost all of these artists are currently on tour - so there isn't the immediate - OH MY GOD I HAVE TO BE THERE FACTOR! that they have had in past years, where certain bands or artists are ONLY playing Lolla and not in the midst of touring.

The headliners make me want to go but most of the rest of the lineup is kinda meh to me. I think Sasquatch or Firefly both have better overall lineups to be honest.

The War on Drugs alone is worth it.

Absolute joke Black Keys are above Sabbath

(also RHCP being above, but at least it's arguable)

I wouldn't waste a day watching any of those bands even if it meant Sabbath had Dio back on stage (ok, maybe). Are we sure this won't turn into another "Ozzy and Friends" if Ward isn't in?

I had the exact opposite reaction. The old fart headliners are a total zzzzzzzzzz. The lineup of new bands is crazy. Like, did they pretty much invite every single decent new band to play?

Apparently I'm out of the loop then but honestly the headliners and around 10-15 more of those bands are about all I've even heard (but not necessarily familiar with) of from that list.

Haley fucking Reinhart?

This is definitely a quantity-over-quality thing to me, but it would be awesome to see Sigur Ros.

Re: Lollapalooza 2012 Lineup announced

Too many damned bands (lots of them I haven't heard of), but there's some solid stuff there.

I can imagine the following shows being great:
Florence + the Machine
Justice
Sigur Ros
M83
The Afghan Whigs
Bloc Party
Dr. Dog
Alabama Shakes
The Gaslight Anthem
Tame Impala
White Rabbits
Doomtree
The War on Drugs

I'm too old to put up with the hassle of festivals, but I'd like to see a regular show with those bands. Having said that, I'm still kicking myself for missing Daft Punk when they played a few years ago.

Seriously, you have no interest in seeing the Afghan Whigs live?

I've gone the past 2 years, but will sit this one out. The only bands I'd want to see are RHCP and Sabbath and I'm already seeing a regular RHCP show in May.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be Ozzy and Friends. The only confirmed Sabbath show is the Download Festival. O&F are playing all the European festival dates.

Re: Lollapalooza 2012 Lineup announced

I watched Florence & the Machine, Miike Snow, and Jack White sets via YouTube tonight - pretty good sets. watched a smidge of Childish Gambino's set, what utter audio garbage.

question: why was there a two hour break on Saturday from 4:30 - 6:30 with nothing being performed on any of the stages - that's very odd for a festival - what? all the artists had dinner altogether??

Re: Lollapalooza 2012 Lineup announced

How are these festivals? I imagine a ton of people, hot weather, the band on a stage that looks like it's a mile away and playing, at best, 5 songs. Am I wrong?

Re: Lollapalooza 2012 Lineup announced

looking at the time slots and the staging, depending when a band performs on the bill, times vary (and how many songs they can cram into their allotted time slot:

take a look:

2012 Schedule: Sunday 8-5-12

30minutes
45minutes
60minutes

headliners: 90min to 105minutes
