The Sting Collector's Series - 6/5/12

Per blu-ray.com:

Universal offers two HD versions of the film - a Blu-ray/DVD Collector's Edition digibook and a single-disc Blu-ray copy. Both editions present the film - digitally restored from high resolution 35mm film elements - in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track alongside these bonus supplements:

Three-part The Art of the Sting documentary
Three 100 Years of Universal featurettes:
- The Lot
- The '70s
- Restoring the Classics
Theatrical trailer
The Sting is expected to street on June 5th.

Since the discs are identical, it's cool to have a choice.

Fantastic film. Digibook for me, please.

Given the praise, this movie somehow manages to still be underrated. A must-buy for me.

This has been a favorite of mine since I saw it during its original release. Back then, a movie would only play at a few theaters, so my dad and I went to the nearest one - and the show we wanted to attend was sold out. So we bought tickets to the next show, which was at 9:45 or some other rather late hour (for a pre-teen anyway). We went to get something to eat, and by the time we got back there was a huge line for THAT show. I wound up sitting in the second row (even then I hated sitting that close) and craning my neck almost straight up for 2+ hours.

It's a shame that this will probably be smothered in the DNR that Universal feels compelled to apply to all of their releases these days.

It's not a very.... flashy movie. But it's great storytelling with perfect casting and a great ending.

This is one of my most cherished HD DVD's. Will definitely pic up the BD.

Given the fine movies that he directed, George Roy Hill's entire career somehow manages to still be underrated.

Believe it or not, I've never seen it. Guess now's a good time.

They are easily the worst studio around for catalog titles. No wonder they were reluctant to release any!

Re: The Sting Collector's Series - 6/5/12

I never bought the HD DVD, but can anyone who owns it comment on the PQ?

If that release looks good, and this one winds up getting DNR'd to death, I might just grab one.

Awesome. Now give me Midnight Run and maybe The Jerk, and I can officially retire my HD DVD set-up once and for all.

Been quite awhile since I saw it, but I remember it looking pretty nice, no glaring issues.

Re: The Sting Collector's Series - 6/5/12

Just sold my HD DVD last month. Perfect timing. I'll get the digibook when the price drops below $20.
