Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 6/12/12

Surprising to see such a late release. This had been rumored for the end of March. Per blu-ray.com:

Warner's Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its 2.39:1 original aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The disc also contains the following supplements:

Maximum Movie Mode viewing option hosted by Robert Downey Jr.
Seven behind-the-scenes featurettes:
- Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: A Perfect Chemistry
- Holmes Without Borders
- Moriarty's Master Plan Unleashed
- Holmesavision on Steroids
- Sherlock Holmes: Under the Gypsy Spell
- Meet Mycroft Holmes
- Guy Ritchie's Well-Oiled Machine

Didn't it just get started? Seems to be fairly "popular"

All I need to know is if it's a two-disc set or a flipper. That'll determine if I go import or domestic on this release.

This is the longest wait for any movie other than a Christmas themed movie.

Is it going to be sold as a Download/Online first?

Please don't be a DVD sized steelbook like The Green Lantern.

The BD only version will be $12.99 at Best Buy next week.

Still no word on the steelbook size. I'm afraid it might end up being a G1.

Other than Harold and Kumar and New Year's Eve, what combo releases from Warner have utilized flippers?

I just recall the whole hullabaloo that Warner Bros. was making a switch to flipper discs on their new releases. I was worried they'd be doing that in this case.

Just an FYI: when I recently ordered Harold and Kumar 3D, it contained 3 discs. I know it was initially released as a flipper, but they apparently changed it back to a separate BD and DVD.

The steelbook is G2 (BD size), per blu-ray.com:

This gives me hope Wrath of the Titans will be. And now I'll have to go to Best Buy after work and get the Sherlock 1 steel.

Amazon has matched Best Buy's $12.99 price on the BD only version.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 6/12/12

Are there any differences between the actual blu-ray features on the two releases? Is the blu-ray one really "movie only" with no special features? Or is it the same disc as the combo, and you're paying the extra $10 to get the dvd and digital copy on that one?

Is the BD only version sans special features? Or are the only things missing the DVD and Ultraviolet copies?

I ask because the Amazon listing still mentions ultraviolet and calls it a Movie-only edition.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 6/12/12

The BD only version has 3 features on it. I think the main differences are the combo pack obviously has the DVD and the interactive feature. Both have UV.

I was planning on getting the steelbook, however, after taxes, that will cost $28+. That's $16 more for packaging and a DVD I won't use. So I went with the cheap option via Amazon.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 6/12/12

I rented this last week and really enjoyed it.

I would like to get this with the Maximum Movie Mode. I'll wait until it drops below $15.

I actually picked up the 1st movie with the Maximum Movie Mode for around $9.99 and if part 2 gets to that price at some point, I'm game.

I'm confused on this. Are you saying that the BD only version only has 3 of the above featurettes whereas the BD in the BD/DVD combo pack has all of them? Or are there 3 featurettes not listed above that are common to both? I assume the "interactive feature" that's missing on the BD only version is the "Maximum Movie Mode" which has all of the above featurettes)?

So, if that's right, it would seem that getting the BD only version for $12.99 not only loses the DVD (which I don't care about) but also a substantial amount of extras (which I do care about). I might hold off buying now and wait for the combo pack to go on sale for $9.99-$12.99 a year or so later (as I believe happened with Target on the first one). I don't suppose anyone knows yet whether Target will carry the BD only or the BD/DVD combo pack or both?

The BD only version has 3 of those featurettes and a UV copy.

The combo pack has all of those extras, a UV copy, and the DVD.

Target is selling the BD only for $19.99 and the combo pack for $22.99.

The review on this site says that it really isn't a Max Movie mode.

I was mildly interested in the steelbook, until I found out it's $26.99. Movie was okay, but after seeing the BBC Sherlock, these aren't quite holding up for me these days. Even at $12.99 for the single disc, I think I'll hold off for now.

Yeah, without a trade & save (like the Underworld steelbook had) and a firm $26.99 pricetag, I can't rationalize this. I liked the movie plenty, so did my wife....but $27? $20 I would be willing, but it's hard to think of any single movie that is worth $30 to me.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 6/12/12

I think I'll go with the standard Blu-ray version for $12.99, paying $10 more for a few extras doesn't seem worth it. I won't watch the features more than once anyways and the movie is the main thing that's important to me.
