Building a subwoofer?

I need a better subwoofer, and I was thinking it might be cheeper to buy a crossover and driver and just hook it up to my old amp which I'm no longer using. Is there more to it than that?

Just remember, the most important part of the sub system is the box. Get that just right and you'll have great sounding subbass.
