Clerks - 7/10
Clerks 2 - 2/10
Clerks was awesome...the story behind it, the comedy, all pretty great. Clerks 2 was a fucking unfunny mess.

Clerks 2 suffers the same fate as every other sequel ever made. They amp up everything everyone loved about the first without really having that magic behind it. Randal was an asshole and people ate it up, now he's a bigger asshole! Dante was a whiny douchebag, so now he's an even bigger whiny douchebag!

Both - 7/10
Having wasted away many years of my own working fast food (and having a relative who will die on his feet doing the same), both hit pretty hard.

All they did in those movies was talk. Hours and hours and people talking. Hell, even Silent Bob talked.
Clerks: 7.5 outta 10
Clerks 2: 7 outta 10

Re: Rate: Clerks and Clerks II
I prefer "Clerks II". To me it successfully combines elements of every one of his previous films except for maybe "Dogma". It's his peak as a writer, I also feel that he was more in his element after "Dogma" and "JaSBSB" in which he was a little over his head as a director.
I've had "Red State" on my Netflix Instant Queue for months and only got around to watching it over the weekend which in and of itself would have been unbelievable to the Smith-obsessed me of 10 years ago. I don't own any of his movies on Blu (though I plan on it as soon as "Mallrats" is announced) but if I had to pick his best movie today I'd have to go with "Clerks II".

I agree it was actually cool the characters again and grow (even if it was very little).
Clerks II 7.5/10
Clerks 6/10

Clerks: A
Clerks 2: B+
Had Smith shown any restraint in his childish, gross out humor, the sequel would have been on par with the original. It's high points far outshine Clerks' but it's lows are embarrassing.
