Anyone ever play Fallout and Fallout 2 computer games?
I have been going through a Fallout drought and saw that on Steam they have the Fallout computer games and was wondering if anyone here has played them and the opinions on them.
Do you use the keyboard to control things? Or do you need a joystick?
Thanks,

Amazing games. There is a guide on this very site that someone posted to get you started because they can be hard the first time you play it till you "get" it...just search fallout and I am sure you can find it.

Yes. Love them more then Fallout 3/New Vegas, but it might be weird for someone who started with those games.

Those are 2 of the greatest RPG's ive ever played. They are the reason I love fallout so much. Though they are a little tough in the begining

LOVED Fallout & Fallout 2. Played them both back in the day, redownloaded and played them from GOG a few years back, and loved them even more. Old school, but great stuff.
Never liked Fallout 3, for some reason...

Great games. If you've never played an isometric turn-based RPG before it's going to take some time to get into it.

Awesome games. I personally liked 2 better than the original.
I liked that they pushed the envelope. You could kill pretty much anyone or anything that wasn't an important main storyline NPC, including kids. Trust me, there were some annoying kids that deserved....well anyway....
You could become a porn star, steal anything, get all kinds of odd perks, drive a car, get cool weapons, blow the crap out of someone and split their body in half, become a famous boxer, the list goes on and on.

Not to complicate things too much, but before playing Fallout 2, I'd install this unofficial patch to the game:
http://www.killap.net/
The game is fun as-is, but this fixes the many, many bugs which are still in the final officially patched version of the game. There's also a "restoration patch", which puts back in a ton of content that was cut from the game, but obviously that alters the game experience. The other one is purely fixes.
There are similar patches for Fallout 1, but they're generally not needed.

Ok, I'm replying to myself here, but I've tried that restoration patch now and it is actually pretty amazing. I've played the vanilla game many times and a much earlier version of that patch, but it's basically finished now. There were tons of things in the released version of Fallout 2 that didn't feel right or it seemed like you should be able to do something that you weren't. That patch fixes all of them. I'm only a third of the way through a replay of the game, but I'd highly recommend it for anyone who's finished the game before.

If anyone is interested, GoG.com is offering the original Fallout for free. It's supposed to be free through tomorrow, according to Gamespy and PCGamer.
