"Unreadable Disc" error....360

I'm completely stumped on this problem since I've never encountered this. Saturday (18th) I was playing Batman:AC and had been for about 2hrs. Out of no-where it stopped and the screen "Unreadable Disc Error" popped up. I ejected it, looked it over, no mars, scratches, nothing. Put it back in and it was taking more time than usual and again, Unreadable Disc.

So to make sure I put in something else and it played right away. Tried another and it played right away. Tried Batman:AC and got the error again. This time I left the disc in and re-started the 360. Same thing...took out the disc and did a cleaning like any disc I have. Even with a magnifying glass there's nothing.

Put in the tray, close and same result. I go back to the dashboard and where you see "My Games"...you normally see the icon for the game in the try...well there's nothing. Oh but this is where it gets weird....When I hit "X" for game details....it shows up as Brink. But not like the whole Brink screen and all the game details you noramlly get. Just says Brink with a small icon. If I hit "Play" it tells me to insert the disc.

Now when I go into my achievements guess what it shows as me playing recently...Batman:AC and Brink as far back as 06/2011. I'm stumped on this one. Any ideas? Thanks

Did you just download the Robin and Nightwing packs? Because I had the same problem after buying those. But it only happened once for me.

As a matter of fact I did DL the Robin pack a week ago but not the Nightwing.

How old is your 360? My 3 year old 360 started selectively playing certain games and then after several open and closes they would eventually play but over time it just got unreadable discs for everything. The laser assembly eventually broke down and it took a $10 Benq equivalent laser from eBay and an hour of following youtube videos to fix.

This happened to me as well, same game (and others; Skylanders and Harry Potter Lego). One day, it let me install them all, so I did. However, I still have issues with Skylanders. Batman and Potter, not so much

It's probably close to 4.5 but this is the very first time a Unreadable Disc error has happened. I've got other discs with slight mars and maybe a lite scratch and they play fine. The Batman disc is flawless in term of apperance. And like I said, I tried a few others and zero issues with them. It must be something in the software or code on the disc since when I hit "X" for game info it says "Brink" but still shows up in my achievments as me playing the game.

Well now something else has been added....

I tried wiping the disc and usingcompressed air on the drive. I then put in the Batman:AC disc and nothing happened. I hit "X" for game info and it actually opped up Batman with all the noraml details you would get with any game.

Ejected the disc and tried again but this time I got...Unrecognized Disc...Status Code 06-2E-00

Ejected disc andtried again and back to the original issue...showing game info as Brink and Unreadable.

I did try some others in between and they played fine. I did read somewhere someone had the same issue but with one game only. They deleted the last DLC for that game, cleared the cache and tried again and it played. I'm wondering if I can go in and try and delte the Robin Pack and see what happens.

That is what I would do...it is easy enough to delete all dlc and download them again later..

How and where do I find the DLC (in this case Robin) and delete it? When I go into "My games" Batman is not even listed. I didn't load it on the HD. The only place with any refernce is in achievments.

if you can't find batman in that list...look for any games that don't have a name and an error symbol. You might have a bad save file as well..

Well it's still doing it but it just gets more strange and weird....

I did th above video by deleting the Robin DLC, clearing the cache again and cleaning the disc....same random results....

unreadable, unrecognizable, Game Detials as "Brink", status Codes of 06-2E-00 and 03-80-00.


So this time I decided to delte the Brink game loaded on the HD and I don't even have the game anymore. I figured it's reading or trying to read a code in the Brink game. Well it worked and didn't work. I no longer get "X" Game Details with Brink but instead get Gears of War 3
i did examine the disc closer this time and don't know if this is the cause or not. But you need a magnifying glass to see but there's a very faint line, straight from end all the way to the inside ring. on the outside it's more noticable right where the hologram is on the inside. i may see i someon can take it home with them and give it a go or go by Gamestop and see what they think.

Well the disc appears to be bad after all. I brought in for someone to try on their Xbox. He said it got the opening cinematic footage of Bruce Wayne speaking to the part of him getting pushed around by the guards and then presto....Unreadable Disc Error.

I'm still puzzeled as to how I played it for nearly 2.5 hours and then it stopped all of a sudden with the Unreadable Disc error. I can understand doing it right away but in the middle of playing?


I saw this over in the Amazon Game board where several had COD issues. he said try this....

You go into system setting->memory->hard drive->system items and delete everything except video bookmark data. Don't worry this wont mess anything up basically what this is is cookies just as your computer has cookies from websites you visit this is the same thing except on your xbox. That should fix it and if it doesnt the other thing you can try is go through all of the categories under hard drive and make sure in none of them there is a sign that looks like a yield. That means there is a corrupt file, if you see one delete it. Also make sure your update version is 2.0.8995.0 you can check this under system info in console settings its at the very bottom of the page.

Update...03-23-2012

I wanted to pass along this on this particular topic instead of doing another one just in case some might encounted the issue of a "cracked disc"

The other day I got another "unreadable error" message right in the middle of playing a game. And once again using a magnifying glass spotted a very tiny crack on the inner circle. I was to the point of just going down and getting another system. After 4.5 years of playing without ny disc cracks I get two within a month.

I looked around on th web for clues and answers and came upon the so-called "Masking Tape" trick. Figuring nothing to lose at this point I decided to try it on the Batman disc since I already picked up another copy, played and sold it. Followed the advice and instructions, put the disc in, made a bit of more noise and then shazam!... game appeared. Went thru and played a bit and worked just fine. So I did the recent disc with a smaller crack. It took two times to get the tape just right but it too played fine.

For now on though I'm not taking chances anymore. I'm getting a CD Wallet with some nice sleeves and putting my games in it. No-more cases.
