Letterboxd: Social Networking for Film Geeks, Dweebs and Spazzes

Hey, have you met my friend MoviePass Letterboxd?

To quote:

What is Letterboxd?

Letterboxd is a social site for sharing your taste in film. Use it as a diary to record your opinion about films as you watch them, or just to keep track of films you’ve seen some time in the past. Rate, review and tag films as you add them. Find and follow your friends, to see what they’re enjoying. Make lists about any aspect of film you like.

Right now the service is in beta (and I don't see a way I can invite others to the service), but I put myself on the mailing list a few weeks ago and I got accepted the other day. From what I've played around with, the service seems pretty neat as I've been requesting functionality like this on my subscription services like MoviePass or Netflix before. However, this one takes it to another level.

For those of you who are already on the service, feel free to add my profile here. There's a few DVD Talk users already on the service, maybe they have some invites available for those who are interested.

the way i've understood it from people on twitter that use it, its a glorified version of "live tweeting" (mentioning your thoughts on a movie as you watch it)

I've talked to a few other guys who got invited quickly. But all I'm stuck with is a lengthy "Subscription".

I'll give it a shot, unless they only want tweeting from the theater cuz homey don't play that.

Oh, cool, I was just thinking there aren't enough useless social clubs online.

It's not a live tweeting site; it's a site for cataloguing movies you've watched. You can add a rating and/or write a mini review. The lists function is pretty fun when people think up creative ones. I mostly use it to track movies I've seen.

How does this differ from icheckmovies (which I've never used)?

I like it better the way it is now: people deciding they love or hate a movie months (or even years) before they even see it.

I started my profile - pretty easy to use, and helps me update my 2012 watch list here on DVDTalk.

I think you have to be a member to view profiles.

I've registered, but don't know if I'll have the time to post stuff on it much. I might be more inclined to if it helped me meet like-minded people of the opposite sex, but seems to be a sausage-fest right now.

My main complaint about the site is that the movies are being linked from Tmdb instead of Imdb. Thanks to that, it's making me submit lots of missing movies that are all easily found at Imdb.

I've been on since January and have loved it. It's finally open to everyone, with very few limitations. Worth a look for those who didn't get a chance.

Is this like a non-gay website to meet other dudes?

Re: Letterboxd: Social Networking for Film Geeks, Dweebs and Spazzes

I'm loving this site - been logging all my 2013 films as I watch them - I still use the Rank Them as you see them thread, but with letterboxd I can include ALL movies, not just new releases. I'm looking for more people to follow (and vice versa) so if any dvdtalkers post their ID's, I'll follow.

Here's my profile
