I thought this episode was a misfire. I was bored throughout.
the new Spartacus also needs to see his pcp for that obvious sinus infection, my god man.

I've got to go back & watch some 1st Season episodes. I just don't remember the Shakespearean bent of the dialogue like this season (haven't seen the prequel yet).
Also, have they always spoken with so many possessive pronouns missing? It has happened numerous times this season (for example, Spartacus yelling at Crixus, "Have you lost mind?"). It happened often enough this past episode that I lost count (although I do remember the Roman dude last episode instructing the slave to "insert c**k in arse" in the 2nd installment).
I never took Latin...is this supposed to approximate the speech patterns of ancient Rome? If so, the effect tends to be negated when it's immediately followed by "You can suck my f****g c**k!"
I'm getting a bit anxious for some new developments. Seems that the S-man and his cohorts have been in a holding pattern. Now that there's a division in the tribe, so to speak, maybe we'll see some new developments.
BTW, what happened to the chummy bro and sis we saw in the first episode?

As for “Spartacus,” executive producer Steven S. DeKnight responds: “The stylized dialogue in ‘Spartacus’ is purely my own fevered concoction. Part Shakespeare, part Robert E. Howard, with a dash of Mamet. My intent was never to accurately mirror Latin. Dropping articles and possessives, using ‘apologies’ instead of ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘gratitude’ in place of ‘thank you’ are all artificial verbal affectations used to create an illusion of antiquity. I studied as a playwright and love playing with language, so in a way Spartacus is one big linguistic experiment for me.”

Re: Spartacus: Vengeance -- "The Greater Good" -- 2/10/12
I thought this was the best episode so far. Loved it
The opening fight sequence was awesome, especially after the guy got the sword through the eye.
Crixus to Spartacus: "Do you expect us to fight naked with cocks as our weapons?"
Only in the mind of Steven S. DeKnight that Cock is such a prevalent part of the Roman vocabulary.
Ashur was firing on all cylinders. I loved how he was taunting Doctore during the torture scene, especially the parts where his wife was fucked by Gannicus. Good use of flashbacks to Gods of the Arena.
Crixus was stupid at the end. There was no need for him to stay behind to hold off the calvary. He had plenty of time to escape.

Thanks for the DeKnight quote, which was very enlightening re: the dialogue. I think we can pretty much guess which lines are influenced by Mamet.
We have gotten into the habit of going around the house saying "gratitudes" and "apologies" now.
