IDW NEWS: Doctor Who/Star Trek TNG Crossover in May

Bleeding Cool has squirrelled out news of an upcoming crossover that might send certain minds reeling. That in May, IDW are to publish a Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover series. Featuring The Doctor, Rory, Amy, Captain Picard, Worf, Data, Geordie LaForge, Deanna Troy, Will Riker and the rest. And that this art, featuring the Doctor, Rory and Amy on the bridge of the Enterprise is a cover that will be used in the series.
Doctor Who has never engaged in any such officially sanctioned crossover outside of the Doctor Who universe before. The closest was Dimensions In Time, a much derided charity telethon show which featured characters from the BBC soap opera Eastenders. Then there was Death’s Head who kinda popped in and out. Star Trek has also seen comic book crossovers with X-Men and the Legion Of Superheroes. But this is the first time that two such major competing TV sci-fi franchises have been allowed to merge in any way before.
Of course this kind of meeting has been the subject of fan fiction thousands of times. But there’s a very special something when it becomes official.
IDW is attending the Gallifrey One convention in a week’s time. I’d expect this to be announced there.
As to the details… CyBorgmen? The Klingoon? The Time Lord Continuum? Dorian of the Ferenghi?

Bullshit. It's been well-established that Star Trek is a fictional show in the Doctor Who universe.

It would have to be Picard, wouldn't it? Nice multi-species crew, touch-feely counselor on staff, experience with humoring mischievous godlike aliens...
Kirk would do something stupid - photon torpedo the Tardis, double hammer-blow Rory, try to teach Amy Pond to luuurrrrrrvvvvve - and piss off the Doctor enough to bring down the entire Federation overnight.

I can't speak to their Star Trek line, but like much of the expanded Doctor Who universe, they often get writers from the show. So it's a little more than fan fic in that regard, although less than canon.
However, one of the 10th Doctor comics became the fifth season episode The Lodger, so now that is canon, albeit for a different Doctor. It's all wibbly wobbly timey wimey.

Well, the title shouldn't be Star Trek:TNG with Kirk (unless there really is some crazy time traveling going on).

If you notice at the top right hand side, it's Cover A meaning it's the cover with the most distribution. Not a variant.

I'm not a Trek fan* and while the current Doctor Who show is okay, I'm not interested in any of its spin-off media. The combo of Next Gen and NuWho just didn't click with me. But the idea of the 4th Doctor battling old school Cybermen alongside Kirk and Spock makes me giddy as a schoolgirl sniffing glue.
*Geek Confession: I have never seen an entire episode of Star Trek (any series) from start to finish. I've seen plenty of bits from various shows over the years, but never a complete end-to-end episode.
