UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit has reportedly agreed to a rematch with Nick Diaz following their close fight Saturday night. While it was initially believed that Condit would wait for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to get healthy, it appears that he will now rematch the recently “retired” Diaz.

Rumors about the fight spread earlier this evening with UFC President Dana White later confirming via twitter.

Diaz and Condit battled in an extremely close fight that split the MMA community when it came to who won the fight. While this is not too uncommon in a judgement based sport, this fight stood out since those that agreed on who won seem to give each fighter different rounds.

When the bout is signed it will end the brief retirement of Nick Diaz after he expressed his anger about the decision following Saturday’s fight. The fight would also give Diaz a second shot at fighting champion Georges St-Pierre when he comes back from knee surgery.

No timetable was given on when the fight would occur, though it could likely happen during the summer and could possibly headline a traditional Independence Day weekend card.

Hmmm, I still think I'd take Condit in the rematch as well.

I could see Diaz acting real goofy in the rematch...either going balls to the wall and attacking like crazy (which you'd think would play into Condit's plan?), or just sitting back and not being aggressive at all to try and make Condit come to him.

So if they split the rematch then what?? Diaz gets to fight St-Pierre? That really isn't fair to Condit then...unless he is guaranteed a shot at the winner of that fight.

Everything I've seen says the fight is not happening. Which is fine by me.

As seen in their first fight, anytime Diaz sat back and didn't advance, he got lit up from strikes. Diaz needs to press forward hard, not that mugging-while-hands-down-walk that he predictably does every fight. He has to cut off Condit and press him against the cage. Condit is faster and starts off at a longer range which is why Diaz got kicked so many times; the sooner Diaz can close the distance the better. He just needs to watch out for those flying knees and spinning elbows as he presses fast.

I dunno... Diaz, in my mind, won't adapt his style while Condit will refine what he did. I think we'll see the same outcome, but Condit will do better the second time. Here is the fight metric if anyone wants to examine it.

Yeah, Diaz is waffling because he is holding out for more money it seems... Although it is a moot point because Dana is now saying that Diaz may be ineligible to fight due to an "issue" that is not injury related.

It sounds like Diaz will be getting a one year ban for a drug test failure. I imagine Dana will not be happy about that. Imagine if Diaz won, and then had the match turned into a no-contest because of a drug test failure... Dana would have cut him for sure. He still might actually.

I'd be perfectly happy never seeing Diaz again.

Sanchez/ Ellenberger should have been a 5 round fight. Dana even copped to fucking up at the post fight presser. All main events are 5 rounds now.

I would have liked to have seen an extra 2 rounds. Would have been very interesting. Both fighters seemed to have plenty in the tank.

02-16-12, 10:06 AM
I've been a big Ellenberger fan for awhile now so I was glad to see him take this. They really need to do Condit-Ellenberger 2 now. I mean, I'm pretty sure Ellenberger actually knocked him out twice during their first fight but getting hit again woke Condit up....so the rematch is bound to be awesome.

As for Diego, he's always in a fight of the night but I'd prefer him at lightweight. He could give some guys trouble down there for sure.

Hendo officially turned down Machida.

Thats a bad fight for anybody. Machida's lost his last 3 of four fights (technically 4 out of 5). It wouldn't do anything for Hendo to take it.

Shields

Hioki
Lauzon

...I gotta a feeling I could be going 3 for 7 there.

It's live, and there's 7 fights instead of 5 on the PPV. Prelims start on FX I think at 8EST.

I'm going with

Bendo
Rampage
Kongo
Shields
Okami
Hioki
Pettis

I do think they should have taken a point away in the 3rd. But I'd probably go 1st round - Sexy, 2nd - 10-10, 3rd - Shields.

Edit: 30-27 across the board seems a little nuts, Sexyama really wasn't doing anything, but he was doing more damage.

I think your point earlier is correct, LW is stacked and they need Edgar at FW. I bet they try to get Frankie to drop to 145, maybe even straight to a title shot off this close of a loss, and try to set up Pettis/Bendo.

MrX
02-26-12, 12:41 AM
Glad I decided to go ahead and order it about 5 minutes before it started. Rampage/Bader was the only crap fight IMO.

Given the way they've been cramming PPV's in it's hard to believe there's not another PPV until April 21st.

Looking forward to the card on FX on Friday with the the debut of the Flyweight division and then Rousey/Tate next Saturday.

Rogan said he heard it's going to be Henderson vs. Pettis next. Fell bad for edgar if that's true, the 2 guys he beats get rematches after close fights and now he doesn't.

If its the Rampage that showed up tonight I don't want to see any of those fights. If Rampage fights again, at this point he should be given one of three opponents : Krzysztof Soszynski, Stephen Bonnar, Brandon Vera.

Should shake things up a bit ...

http://www.fightersonlymag.com/content/news/15710-tuf-15-cast-member-is-also-gay-porn-star

Longtime followers of The Ultimate Fighter reality show know that its producers love a bit of drama, whether it be practical jokes raising tempers or abrasive personalities locked into the same house for weeks on end.

The latest season - TUF 15 - will commence on March 9th on FX . As it is airing on a FOX channel and is the first time the show has featured live fights rather than pre-records, it is sure to get more attention than recent seasons have.

But there is also going to be some controversy, and one of the most polarising matters is surely going to be the inclusion of a gay porn star as a cast member.

Dakota Cochrane has an 11-2 professional record which includes a solid win over former WEC champion Jamie Varner. But he also has a sideline as ‘Danny’ and ‘Sean Cody’ in the gay porn industry, which is likely to cause a stir among MMA fans when it hits the forums.. Ooh, any second now.

A post on Middle Easy first flagged up Cochrane’s moonlighting and a quick Google search of his name came up with a website called Queerty, which has him featured in a list of athletes who have become gay porn stars (or gay porn stars who have become athletes, one or the other).

Interesting quote from the Queerty article. Asked about his personal life, Cochrane is quoted as saying “Yes [my girlfriend knows I'm doing gay porn], but she’s not happy about it” - can anyone really blame her?

It does not take a sociology degree to understand that the typical MMA fan - certainly the casual aficionado - is of the loudly heterosexual, Tapout-wearing alpha-posturing variety and so Cochrane’s presence in the TUF line-up is going to cause some outrage and some not very nice epithets being thrown around.

But let us try and encourage a mature approach. Above all, Cochrane is a successful professional fighter who trains with some animals at Premier Combat Center. His training partners include Jason Brilz, Jake Ellenberger, Ryan Jensen and Houston Alexander.

All of them have fought under the UFC banner and as it seems his sideline job has been common knowledge since the middle of last year, they clearly aren’t bothered about his sexuality. That said, he has probably heard one too many jokes about ‘naked rear chokes’ and ‘the third hook’.

So did the judges. It was scored as a Draw.

The error in question was made by Craig Waller, executive officer of the Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales.

“I take full responsibility for the error that was incurred. Unfortunately, I misread one of the scorecards,” said Waller. “The fight should have been a majority draw, and we should have gone into that fourth round. I sincerely apologize to both fighters, to Dana, and to every single fan of the UFC.

I see what you're saying but I think the UFC did right by Frankie.. I think he deserved it after what he's done by taking the rematches etc.. While I think Bendo vs Pettis will be a sic fight I personally don't think Pettis deserves a title shot yet..

Yes, I know he got screwed as he was supposed to have the shot when he came from the WEC.. However, his first fight in the UFC was a loss to Guida and then a split decision win over Jeremy Stephens (not even top 15) and then an impressive win over Lauzon (another non top 15 fighter)..

I think Pettis needs an impressive win over a top opponent..

I definitley see where you're coming from and think you might be right. That being said, does he deserve the rematch? Yes. But the bottom line with me is that I think that a potential Edgar-Aldo fight is a real dream type match up right now. Frankie is just taking way too much damage at 155 to be a long term competitor. He's nearly been knocked out (and has even been flash knocked out by his own admission) in his last three fights. He doesn't have a BJ Penn or Dan Henderson level chin and needs to come to a weight class where he won't be at a power or size disadvantage. I think this was really evident in the fight with Bendo and with how much Ben has been improving in every fight is very very likely to happen again.

Yea, I agree.. Sucks seeing him take so much damage. I'm not sure why he's so reluctant to move down.. I mean, I'm pretty sure he barely even cuts weight now, right?

For one thing he enjoys a significant speed advantage over pretty much everyone at 155. At 145 I don't know that that would be the case.

Just watched that Tate-Rousey fight last night... I have to say, in all my MMA watching, I think that was the first time I felt squeamish watching what happened in a fight. Thinking about her arm bending like that still gives me the heeby jeebies! That pic linked above is kind of bad, but right before she let go it was even worse, it was literally at a 90 degree angle.

Speaking of brain damage... it isn't looking for Gary Goodridge

Ask his friends and they’ll tell you. The changes to Gary Goodridge’s personality happened the same way the brain damage did: gradually, over the course of several years. It wasn’t like he took one big blow to the head and woke up the next day with a mind that could no longer trace the thread of a conversation or remember what he’d had for dinner the night before. It was the little stuff. His speech got a little harder to understand. He didn’t tell as many jokes. He forgot things...

Zuffa had a busy day today. First they fired King Mo, then six of their top guys were administered surprise drug tests by the Nevada Athletic Commission:

It was not the suspension [on a failed drug test] that cost [King Mo] his job, but a Twitter remark from later in the day where he said, "I shoulda stayed home Lol, NSAC had they mind made up b4 we got there! Lol All the research we did and disclosed to em! They ignored! LOL. . . I honestly feel like Lundvall (commissioner Pat Lundvall) was a racist bitch asking me if I can read or speak English. Go on somewhere with that bullshit bitch!!!"

It is a basic question asked at hearings that fighter are asked if they can read or speak English.

Mir is the most logical choice for JDS but not sure why they would put Big Foot up against Cain and Mitrione against Big Country.. Werdum is open they should put him up against Cain being he beat Big Foot, Fedor, and Big Country recently..

Just a heads-up if your taping Ultimate Fighter tonight - the first episode (of three episodes) of
UFC Primetime: Jones vs Evans will be shown after tonights episode of The Ultimate Fighter.
Each episode will run a half-hour. So if your taping both - at least set the recording till 11:45 pm ET.
Theres always the chance that the LIVE fight goes to a third round - like last week - thus pushing everything
back at least 10 minutes or so. I record to 11:30 pm ET anyway when I record TUF so I was ok last week.
This week and the next two weeks, I'll add a half-hour for UFC Primetime and record to 12:00 am ET.

If Rashad has any sense at all he'll move to Middleweight. One win against a top ten guy and he'd easily get a title shot. Whereas at LHW he's got a long road back to a title shot all against guys he's already fought. And even then how could you possibly sell a second fight with Jones. You couldn't. The only way Rashad would make sense at LHW now is if Jones moved to HW. Which I'd imagine is still a ways off.

I don't mind it so much as it most likely will be his last shot. If he loses he has lost to 3 (Carwin, Lesnar, JDS) of the top 5 guys (Cain and Overeem) and there is basically nowhere for him to go because if he can't get past JDS he sure has hell won't get past the other two for another shot. Rampage sounding off on his status with the UFC:

"After I leave the UFC, I'm done with them! Just like when I left PRIDE. You remember when I left PRIDE? It's over. I was very loyal to PRIDE. I fought for PRIDE, and I fought the way I fought to put butts in seats. I took risks, slammed people and stuff like that. PRIDE did a good job. They built me up. I wasn't that good when I first came out. I fought Sakuraba and they built me up and then threw me in some tough fights. That's the way you're supposed to do it. Now, the UFC, I was a better fighter when I came there. My second fight, they throw me to Chuck Liddell. The fans didn't know who I was. I knocked him out, the fans booed me. That changed me, who I am towards the fans. I used to be the nicest guy towards fans. My first time getting booed. How are you gonna boo somebody for knocking somebody out? But I got a whole other opinion on that. And now, the UFC's just throwing me all these boring fighters, these game planners, these wrestlers. I'm the type of fighter who you should match up with people who want to fight excitingly. You know what I'm saying? Cuz I'm gonna be the type of fighter who puts butts in seats.

"I can't even negotiate with anybody. I'm not even negotiating with anybody right now. I got one fight with the UFC. After I do that fight with the UFC, then I can negotiate and figure out what I'm gonna do next. I got so much other stuff going on, I could take a year off from fighting, and I don't even care. The Belcher/Paul Harris* fight was great. Really wish Belcher would just get a sleeve on that giant ass Johnny Cash tattoo, that shit is distracting...

The Diaz brothers are just goddamned machines.**

*Yes, I know his name isn't Paul Harris.

**Pot powered douche bag machines, but still.

There's other things I wanna do. I'm more than a fighter. I'm an entertainer. I like entertaining people. I like making people laugh, I like entertaining people. I like fighting. I like beating people up. But, I still gotta heal up. I'm not jumping right back into fighting, right away. I got my knees to worry about. I've been fighting injured for a while."

I'm so sick of this loser. They really should just let him go so he can fade into obscurity where he belongs. Fucking simpleton.

I'd love to see a Jose Aldo/Chan Sung Jung fight. I assume it would be quite similar to the Junior Dos Santos/Roy Nelson fight. An elite striking machine against a guy who has no quit in him.

For you guys with an Xbox - do you buy your PPVs through it, or just cable/satellite like normal?

The only time that I watched a PPV over the Xbox was one of the initial free trials and it worked fine for me. It did switch between HD and SD a few times, however.

I'm trying to convince myself to just go out and watch the main card at a bar somewhere, but the lazy part of me wants to order it off cable. Hoping to see impressive wins from JDS, Cain, and Nelson. Looking forward to seeing Brandao fight again too.

Decided to run to BW3 to hopefully catch the last fight or two, strolled in about 10:45...whoops. Guess I should've expected a quick card with 5 heavyweight fights.

I have no fighting experience, but I'll still never understand how a guy who has absolutely no chance at winning a fight standing up doesn't just go all in and try for takedowns.

Chadm
05-27-12, 01:22 AM
Leading up to the PPV I was rooting for Dos Santos to win, but as soon as I saw Lesnar at ringside I couldn't help but cheer for Frank Mir just so I could see Mir win and call out Lesnar.

Also, the Cain that showed up tonight beats Dos Santos. Thats just a rubber match waiting to happen.

Some highlights from the post-fight press conference

*Mayhem is cut

*Cain will get the next title shot

*Overeem will get his shot when he returns (Sounds like this is Lorenzo pulling rank on Dana)

*Vitor broke his hand and they are looking for a new opponent for Wand.

I guess that explains why they barely mentioned UFC 147, which is probably a lost cause at this point, and were plugging UFC 148.

I don't understand the whole Cain / Dos Santos II thing right now. I mean really, Junior KO'd him (while he had a significant knee injury) in a minute. I can't see the second match-up playing any differently.

As for Mir, I'd love to see him take on Barnett.

UFC Bans Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller For “Dumb Bulls**t”

Jason “Mayhem” Miller is no longer fighting in the UFC after president Dana White announced on Sunday that the fighters ridiculous pre-fight stunts did not fit with the UFC and its goals for the future. The announcement was made after Jason Miller lost to C.B. Dollaway after showing up at the fight with a pink boombox in hand and a boa around his neck.

While Dana did not specifically say which stunt led to the fighters ousting he eventually revealed:

“Mayhem’s done. He’s gone,” while adding that the incident that led to his firing was “just some bulls–t that I don’t want to talk about. We’re on a crazy string here of dumb bulls–t.”

Miller began his career in the UFC but eventually moved over to Strikeforce before returning to the UFC after he spent some time coaching on The Ultimate Fighter.

Speaking about Jason Miller’s playful entrances to the UFC Octagon Dana White said of his Saturday entrance:

“When you get embarrassed the way he did against Michael Bisping, then you show up in that pink whatever that thing was, I’m not into that stuff. It’s not my thing. I guess I don’t really care if guys do it because you see it at weigh-ins all the time. Just take this thing serious. If you want to be a clown do that stuff on your reality show.”

Miller leaves the UFC with an overall record of 23-9, he is still the host of MTV’s Bully Beatdown where he helps bullied teens get their revenge against their tormentors with the help of a trained fighter.

Instead of Vitor/Wandy 2 were getting Wanderlei Silva/Rich Franklin 2. Hopefully an extra 2 rounds will be able to solve what 3 rounds couldn't last time.

starseed1981

Hmmmm, that'll be interesting. Wand was obviously affected by the weight cut last time and both are way past their prime. But man, as a Wand fan its heartbreaking to see him still fighting. Every time he actually wins I pray that he'll announce his retirement. Anyhow, I'm sure Vitor would've literally killed him so I guess I'm ok with this.
