Yet somehow Lunardi's got 3 P12 teams in the field.

WallyOPD
02-06-12, 12:08 PM
Since the third of those teams is Arizona, I can only conclude that Lunardi is showing a nuanced knowledge of the college basketball landscape and an ability to look beyond the numbers.

How much does the committee factor in injuries to their decision? Pitt was 0-6 in conference play without Tray Woodall, but is 4-1 since he came back. He's obviously a big part of their team. I think they'll get in regardless if they only lose at most 1 more before the tourney.

Louisville destroys UConn. Cards were impressive in the victory. The Huskies, on the other hand, struggled mightily. They literally looked like they had thrown in the towel as Louisville pulled away.

Michael Corvin
02-06-12, 09:12 PM
That's an understatement. It was literally up by 10, blink and you miss a 20-4 run. Not at all what I expected after playing two days ago. The Huskies didn't look like they were there at all in the second half.

Michigan [17-7 (7-4), RPI: 15, SOS: 16] It's hard to find fault with this resume. Good RPI, strong SOS, a 7-5 record vs. the RPI top 50 and only one loss (at Iowa) outside the top 60. So why isn't Michigan a lock just yet? Two lingering warts: The Wolverines have been mediocre on the road (they're just 2-6 in true road games and 4-7 away from Crisler Arena) and their nonconference SOS is a relatively meager 165. Neither of those things will sway the balance of this profile toward the bubble, but the Wolverines have four remaining road games (at Nebraska, Northwestern, Illinois and Penn State), all of which could prove tricky.

While its true because every road game has been tricky for us so far at least that is like 4 of the 5 most winnable road games in the Big 10.

I don't think Florida is feeling too fortunate right now. They got hammered last night. You're right, though. I wonder if the weak S.E.C. might be making them look a bit better than they are, but the Cats look nasty right now. They still have Vandy twice and Florida on the road in addition to the S.E.C. tourney, but I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that they roll into the NCAA's with just the Indiana loss as the lone blemish on their schedule.

Red Dog
02-08-12, 12:48 PM
I don't see the SEC as weak. Weaker than the B10? Sure, but so is everyone else. If you look at conference RPI, the SEC, B12, and Big East are all virtually equal. Then you have a drop-off.

Eight hours later and it still feels like Austin Rivers kicked my front door down, walked upstairs and had sex with my wife, came back downstairs and dumped beer over my head then walked out of the house with my kids singing the Kelly Clarkson song from the Toyota ad. Perhaps a bit dramatic, but that was an epic gut punch. Especially considering Carolina could have/should have put the game away and been in the driver's seat for the conference title and perhaps a #1 seed. Just brutal.

Red Dog
02-09-12, 07:57 AM
I dozed off with about 3 minutes left. Then woke up again with 20 secs left, shocked that Duke was within 1. Total onions shot by Rivers. How the fuck did Carolina blow that late lead?

Regardless, there really is never a winner in a Dook/UNC game to me. ;)

Huge win for the Irish at WVU last night. They're actually all alone in 3rd place. Who would've thought that. Conversely, a big loss for WVU....they really haven't been playing well lately (lost 4 of 5 and should've lost to Prov) and they are now looking at the possibility of having to play day 1 in the Garden.

And then there were no undefeateds as Murray State fell to Tenn State. They only have themselves to blame - they had 2 chances left late, down 1, with the ball, to win it, and they never got a shot, turning it over twice.

Doesn't matter what level, going undefeated in this day and age is a seemingly impossible task. Makes what UNLV (best college team I've ever seen, even if they lost to Duke) did in 1991 all the more impressive.

I can't see Murray being more than a 8 seed.

WallyOPD
02-10-12, 09:24 AM
Frustrating when, on a rare ESPN game for Arizona, they don't show the first few minutes of the first half due to OT in Wisconsin/Minnesota, and then don't show the first few minutes of the second half due to Tennessee St./Murray St. Especially frustrating that when Murray St. was over they went to commercials, then came back to the studio to let us know that they would send us back to Arizona after they showed a few more commercials.

I'd probably die of a heart attack before I could update the signature. It's not something I count on though. Our greatest team - the 2006 Bison - got rolled by Duke, granted in Cameron. Blackshear played better than expected, but clearly threw off the dynamic of the team which led to the early 10 point deficit. It's bullshit that they got away with what should have been a couple technical fouls, too.

A huge dominating win by Wichita State at Creighton. That puts them in the drivers seat for the MVC regular season title. If they do that, they should be a tourney lock. Creighton has now lost 3 straight heading into Bracketbuster week. I'm sure LBSU isn't happy about that.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2012/01/syracuse-unveils-new-gray-nike-uniforms/1

It might be tough to remember Syracuse's nickname when the Orange wear their new uniforms.

Syracuse, one of nine programs that will wear new Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms this season, unveiled the jerseys Wednesday morning. They're a lot more gray than Syracuse fans would probably like.

But at least they won't be worn when the Orange play Georgetown. At least that's not what we're hearing at this point.

According to Syracuse's athletic website, the team will wear the new uniforms when it hosts USF on Feb. 22.

Each of the nine teams selected by Nike to wear the uniforms have won NCAA Championships in Nike apparel. The other eight schools: Arizona, the Baylor women's team, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Connecticut (men's and women's) and North Carolina.

Here's when you can expect to see the uniforms in games: UConn vs. Notre Dame (1/29), Kentucky vs. Tennessee (1/31), Duke vs. Maryland (2/11), Baylor (women's) vs. Texas A&M (2/11), Florida vs. Tennessee (2/11), Syracuse vs. USF (2/22), Arizona vs. UCLA (2/25), UConn (women's) vs. Notre Dame (2/27) and UNC vs. Maryland (2/29).

"Nike is committed to producing top-of-the-line performance attire with reduced sacrifice to the environment," Phil Cook, Nike's Brand Manager for Basketball, said in a statement. "With our Nike Hyper Elite Platinum design, Nike is maintaining its long-standing obligations to our fans to not only produce the best on-court looks but also a design that makes use of the resources we already have."

Nice article by Forde (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=pf-forde_michigan_state_perfect_plan_ohio_state_021112) on why Izzo is far and away the best coach in the B10 and totally schooled Matta yesterday. Which, btw, was a perfect example of why i stand by my claim that he's a shitty 'game' coach. man has had 10 NBA players, 2 1 seeds, 2 2 seeds, and made it past the Sweet 16 once. One day he may learn the value of actually developing a team with a bench rather than throwing 5 McDs AAs out there for 40 minutes and hoping they win.

First who cares everyone know Izzo is the best coach in the B1G. I don't need Pat Forde(who I can't stand to tell me that). Secondly, you said Matta was the worst coach in the conference which is ridiculous. Is he a 'shitty game coach' lol, I don't know if he is or not. The thing I do know is the places he has been (Butler, Xavier, and OSU) he has been very successful and most definitely and most importantly not anywhere close to being a horrible coach.

I would carry Anthony Grant on my back from Tuscaloosa to Champaign, but I can't see them winning a bidding war with Alabama.

I like Stevens, but I get the sense he would get the Lon Kruger treatment from Chicago.

Drew is too Rick Barnes-ish for me.

I agree with you on Grant. I really want someone who emphasizes an up-tempo style offense. I don't know if Grant is that style of coach. I haven't paid attention to his teams enough to know but I am so tired of looking at this offense year after year at Illinois or for that matter at any Big 10 basketball. This conference needs some freaking life in it sometimes.
