Father Of The Bride: 20th Anniversary Edition / Father Of The Bride: Part II (Blu-ray + DVD) (http://www.walmart.com/ip/19885260)

Celebrate the platinum anniversary of the unforgettable comedy classic "Father Of The Bride" plus the uproarious follow-up "Father Of The Bride, Part II" on Blu-ray for the first time ever. Screen legends Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short star in these warm and witty family favorites, complete with a new digital restoration! Things get out of hand for befuddled father George Banks (Martin) when his young daughter unexpectedly announces her plans to wed. Life gets even crazier in the side-splitting sequel when his daughter and his wife (Keaton) both announce they are pregnant, and George desperately tries to capture the wild and crazy days of his youth.

Subtitles: English, Audio Commentary.
"An Invitation to 'Father of the Bride'", "Steve Martin and Martin Short Interview Each Other".

Nice. So I wonder, is this a Wal Mart exclusive?

Hope they port over all the special features. If not gonna have to keep the former special edition.... But this is a buy nonetheless.

Father Of The Bride made me get choked up when my daughter was little. Now that she's 20 it'll be even worse. When my niece got married, during his speech my brother-in-law spoke of watching this movie to get ready for the day. Will be convinced to upgrade if the transfer is good and the price is right

It says in the original post that there's a commentary a couple of featurettes which, IIRC, is all that was on the DVD. Not sure what, if any, were on FotB 2.

The only features on Father of the Bride Part II are two short production featurettes (3:35 and 4:21) and neither are particularly enlightening (I think they originally aired on HBO, ABC or something) and the trailer. There's no commentary track (the back cover is poorly worded making you think there is one).

I just love how when the "15th Anniversary" DVD came out it was 2005 (a year BEFORE the actual 15th Anniversary) and now this "20th Anniversary set is coming out, with no actual new features and it's a year AFTER the actual 20th Anniversary of the film. I swear Disney doesn't know when this movie actually came out!

How do you know that there is no commentary on the blu-ray of part II ? It doesn't say that anywhere. Where did you see a back cover ?

I think he was referring to the special features of the existing DVD...Yeah, Disney has at least a couple of DVDs (The Insider being another) with EPK featurettes that are actually titled "Audio Commentary With [Stars]." I don't know who named these extras or why they thought titling the clips that way was a good idea, but I hope someone slapped them.

1991, right? I remember seeing a sneak preview of it with Beauty & The Beast. Pretty good double feature.

I wonder if this was meant to be released earlier, but who knows? The movie was released Dec. 20, 1991, so the majority of its run was in 1992, so it's not too far off. It's possible there were just delays, for some reason. I thought it was released in 1992, as I remember going to Disney World in 1992 and they had a huge poster advertising its release. But I guess it had been out, but for a few months.

Well, they carried over calling it "Audio Commentary" on the back cover on this release even though both included DVDs are the same as the originals...

From your linked review:

"but don’t expect the kind of clarity and detail you get in a current Blu-ray. The level of detail is average for catalog titles from the ‘90s." They aren't know for "average".

For Disney, who is known as the industry leader for restorations, this is inexcusable and definitely "terrible".

If you're a huge fan of the series I'm not going to argue against buying the double feature, but if people keep buying lazy transfers like this companies like Disney will stop putting the time and care needed into real restoration and keep churning out muddy grainy prints like this.

Interesting way to twist average into terrible. Very few catalogs come out looking like new releases. This one seems like it could have been better, but it also seems to be pretty good, with both reviews recommending it and good but not great pq scores.

In other words...terrible?

Despite not having any new features, IMO while not great, they're a worthy enough upgrade over the DVDs. Here are some caps I did (to see them at full resolution, click the magnify glass on upper right hand corner):

Thanks for answering my question before I asked it

The three-disc set includes “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride, Part II” on a 50GB Blu-ray disc, plus a DVD of each film—all housed in one single-width Blu-ray case.
