Ordered one from DVDPlanet.com as well. Great price! Still won't trust Deep Discount especially on items that are out of stock. Might get it by next year!!! Thanks OP-

This was actually 39.xx earlier this week, but if you ordered more than 0, you exceeded the quantity limit for that title :(. So I called DD and they said they were having some trouble with their site.

Then it went up to 47.xx and you still couldn't check out with it. Than it went to 107.xx and I figured it was a mistake.

Been holding out for a good price for 3 years. I think this is the first time it's been below 80-85 (camelx3 says 82.99 in 03/2009).

My thanks to the OP for posting this. I ordered it, plus a couple of the Warner 4-in-1's that were reduced to $4.99 that were mentioned in an earlier thread. I'm not surprised these titles are now backordered considering the extreme discount involved, but it's not as if I was chomping at the bit to watch Napoleon Solo before the Super Bowl.

Funny how I never seem to have any problems when DD processes my orders, either for themselves or for the Warner Archive. My orders with them have become more selective than in the past, which I view as partly a matter of themselves becoming more disiplined in their pricing and others becoming selectively more liberal. But their service has always been good, and arrival time, even during their semi-annual sales have been good. And their Archive titles have extremely fast turnaround time (since there's no problem with in-stock issues).

So, by all means feel good about cutting them down. I'll feel better about watching the Man from UNCLE at a price I wouldn't have expected.

Well, I'm assuming they haven't shipped you anything yet, though. There's still time for you not to feel good if they cancel Monday, or more like several weeks down the road. It won't stop me from ordering the good deals, but I have less confidence that they will fulfill all orders after having a few cancelled in the past.

Just a note. If you want the total collection, you still need...

The 1983 CBS TV movie "Return Of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: The Fifteen Years Later Affair" which is also on DVD. I'm sure it'll fit in the box.

I envy you getting to see it for the first time. It's a very good and entertaining series, but remember not to get spoiled by the first season which is by far the best of the three and a half seasons. The second one is also good, but things are dire in the third for the most part when they changed producers and went the BATMAN camp route. There are still some good eps that year, but most are a pain to sit through unless you like really forced camp. It picks up again for the aborted fourth season when they tried to emulate the stellar first season, but they alienated too many viewers with the third and wound up canceled by January.

Still it's a pop cultural milestone from the era and well worth owning and enjoying, especially at this incredible price.

I don't believe it will fit in the box... the season sets fill up the case quite nicely. EDIT: Now that I take out all of the individual season sets there is, indeed, some room about the size of a regular DVD case at the bottom of the box. The only downside is that you'll have to unceremoniously rip out the cardboard spacer glued to the bottom of the case.

I still don't have "The Fifteen Years Later Affair"... but in order to complete your collection you'll also have to get the Man from UNCLE 8-movie set and "The Girl from UNCLE" from WBshop.com. Those two titles are only available from the disc-on-demand Warner Archives label.

I have both titles and one of my "Girl from UNCLE" discs won't play. I contacted Warner Archives about getting a replacement disc and they wanted me to send in all the discs from both volumes of the complete series... I'm sure I'll do it eventually.

Is there any additional scenes on those movies? My understanding is that they are just edited episodes.

I forgot about "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E." MOD.

ProfessorEcho
01-31-12, 12:23 AM
Yes, some of the movies, especially the early ones, had some racier scenes added to spice them up a bit and give them more of a Bond feel. Theatrical standards had become more lenient during the 60's than network television. This also gave them more of a selling point for theaters overseas in parts of the world that had yet to see the series.

JohnIan

Good to know.

Another selling point was that although the first season was broadcast in B&W, episodes were actually filmed in color!
The movie versions are the only way to see those scenes in color!

Wow great price. I am very tempted. I dont buy many dvds anymore. Tv shows that can be watched for free legally online I no longer desire them on dvd. BUT this one is not available online to watch legally for free and netflix only has it with their dvd service.

$48 is a great price. $12 a season is not bad. The cheapest I could see these going in the near future is maybe $40, $10 per season.(which seems to be the cheapest some tv shows end up being.)

Lastly, to address the DD customer service issue. I have had pretty good service from the. Once I got the wrong dvd set and they promptly sent me a prepaid postage label and I received the proper product a week or so later.

I have also ordered out of stock products and have ALWAYS received them. Some came within a few days and once it took a couple of weeks. Never had an order cancelled. I can only guess they would cancel an item that they mispriced and did not have displayed for very long. Which is in their right.(I know some people do not agree with this but it is akin to what happens in a grocery store, if the error is found before the item is scanned they do not have to let the customer have it at that price.)

The only other problems I have had are some bad discs. Which they have always taken back and replaced for me.

The only reason I dont shop with them much anymore is because they dont have much I want onsale any longer.

But every once in awhile something like this comes up.

I got this and The Complete Get Smart when they first came out. Don't regret it at all. It does make me wonder if I should hold off on getting the complete 6 Million Dollar Man until the price drops to this level.

This has been on my wishlist for quite a while, but just couldn't justify it at the full retail price. I was eventually planning on picking it up through the Columbia House DVD Club, where it can usually be had for $110.00 or so. But at this price, I couldn't afford to pass it up, so I'm taking a shot.

I just hope it won't end up being like the experience I had with DDD a few years ago, where I put in an order for a few very commonly available titles that immediately went on back-order and didn't ship for three or four months. As I recall, DDD wouldn't let me cancel the order either, as they claimed it was "being processed" even though it was obviously back-ordered. So they basically held my order hostage for like four months.

This was a few years back when they seemed to be going through some really terrible mismanagement under what was later to purported to be their former ownership. After vowing never to order from them again after that, I later recanted and gave them another shot and had no problem with the subsequent order or two I put in with them. But it's still been awhile since my last order with them, and I have no idea how their service is currently. Hopefully, this order will go through (ie - not be canceled due to a "mistake") and be fulfilled in a timely manner, or I may be permanently done with them. If it does work out, it will be a great deal, though.

I am surprised this thread hasnt generated more interest. Probably wont see it this cheap again for awhile. Used copies go for more than this on ebay.(when big sales like this are not going on) I decided to pick this up. The show was rarely on when I was a kid so I never saw it.(maybe a snipet or two) I figure if I dont like it I can get more than what I paid for it on ebay.

I figure this will be a fun show to watch during the spring/summer months.

I would love to pick one up, but I'm tapped. The plumber took most of my free money. I barely had enough to pick up "The Thing" prequel. I'll be okay in the weeks to come, but I'm certain I'll miss out on this offering. But that's me.

As for the show itself, it's largely a mystery to most. I'm of the X generation. I've probably seen one or two of joined epsiode movies. But that was by accident, very late night television - back when TV used to show movies in the wee hours. I missed that. I was exposed to many things I wouldn't normally ever see. One that pops to mind is "Quest For Love" (1971). Until last year I didn't know the feature's name. I only saw it ONCE, on ABC perhaps close to two decades ago. A parallel universe tale. Or episodes of "Star Maidens", remember that?

Anyhow I got curious at what I saw and looked up what I could in books; pre-internet. I didn't have a cinema mentor growing up, most of the stuff I found was by accident or in publications - 'I need to see that'. Soon I found full episode guides and even a fan fiction where Solo and Kuryakin joined forces with the crew of the Enterprise who was once again thrown back in time.

For many now, this is... well ancient. They would need the concept explained to them. Cold War, what's that? It's not that far from the truth. Stuff like this is a niché. And our numbers are shrinking every day. Remakes are made that WE know are remakes, but for good chunk of them it's an original production.

The thing that drove me to seek out older features and TV shows is largely lost on them. There's no drive to discover. As if they like being boxed. They pick titles for rent on Netflix and its recommendations; never/hardly going to a physical rental shop - seeing the huge, vast horizon of possibilities. Things that wouldn't pop in their noggin' for consideration unless in person.

This is where "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." fall into. Part of a dusty relic, like televisions without remote controls. Or scrambled cable porn.

I think someone made a mistake. This set is now $11.49. I bet they meant to put it back at $114.99. Whos gonna try and get it at that price??

EDIT: MEH. I called. It was a definite mistake of course. They had a similar problem early with band of brothers. It was at a price of $6 and some odd cents. They still seem to be having an issue with their system. Operator told me thanks for pointing the mistake out. I am sure it will be changed soon. Sorry guys. Doubt they would have honored it anyways.

Actually, the bigger mistake is telling us about being a good Samaritan. One should never brag about such deeds. Keep it quiet when patting yourself on the back because one man's good deed could be another man's lost score. I'm not picking sides, just saying that different folks look at the same situation differently. On the flip side, I don't think someone who clearly made a deal of the century by fighting with management or fast talking cashiers into selling the wrong DVD for another (or ordering mis-priced items online) should brag either.

You need to learn to not take things out of context.(I'm being kind) Pizza said I bragged when I said I was being a good samaritan. THAT comment was after your rookie comment. It was not my intention to "brag" with the samaritan comment. Nor with my edit. What would I gain from it? Now if you really want to hear me brag: BOTTOM LINE. I saved you and many others from going to the trouble to order it and than get it cancelled and than proceed to whine about it, full well knowing it was priced wrong and that you probably wouldnt get it. I also saved DD from the many headaches that you and many others would probably have given them.(I'm being kind AND bragging) End of story.

But there was a possiblity... ever so slim. Had I known, I would've jumped on it and paid next day delivery.

They're the same company and stuff comes from the same warehouse. In addition, prices on DD eventually propagate to DVDPlanet.com. So if there's ever something you want that's just gone up in price at DD, run over to planet to see if you can catch it at the old price.

But there was a possiblity... ever so slim. Had I known, I would've jumped on it and paid next day delivery.

You would have 0 chance of getting it. Next day delivery starts when it's shipped, and since they aren't the fastest at getting things out the door, it would have been stopped.

If anyone still wants to get their panties in a bunch because they think they'd get it, go read the last time this happened http://forum.dvdtalk.com/blu-ray-bargains/598075-band-brothers-br-10-shipped.html

The only thing that happened is the price got fixed before people made a bunch of orders that would 100% get cancelled. Then everyone would be crying about how DD sucks and they'll never order from them again.

.

People said the same thing when the B1G1 glitch happened during their 2010 Labor Day sale. Yet many of us, including me, got some tremendous deals with the glitch and DD never even questioned it for most. So I cannot agree with your unqualified assertion.

Similar glitches happened at the WB SHOP last year which resulted in many cancellations of incredible prices, but some were shipped out early on. These results may be rare overall, but they CAN and HAVE happened.

Illegal activity is one thing when posted in this forum, but the blurry line of ethical and unethical is another. We are all a part of this forum for BARGAINS, hence the title, and many of us mercenary enough to not want to hear about a sanctimonious gesture which MAY have resulted in the loss of a bargain. My personal view is that it is not up to us consumers to point out an error in a merchant's listing, but if that person felt it was his obligation, fine. Just consider the arena you are in before you call attention to your altruism. To not expect a negative reaction here for such actions is naive.

The Man with the Golden Doujinshi

I'd say a glitch and an item with a price mistake are two slightly different beasts, since it's more of a calculation and less of direct easy to see.

I was here during the "Rome: The Complete First Season" Suncoast error. A newbie, nobody explained until after the fact. A few, not a lot, but a few got the season box set - next day shipping.

I would've liked that possiblity for this collection. Would have.

Well sorry I ruined it for you. If you were willing to pay for it at a low error price what stopped you from getting it at a historical low of $47.79?? It may have not been $11.40 but DD offered it at the lowest price I have ever seen. I am surprised you didnt jump on it when this thread first originated it was at $47.79 for several days.

My personal view is that it is not up to us consumers to point out an error in a merchant's listing, but if that person felt it was his obligation, fine. Just consider the arena you are in before you call attention to your altruism. To not expect a negative reaction here for such actions is naive.

I should have just done away with my original post. It was up 25 minutes so I edited out of respect for those who had already read it and were considering buying it. Next time I will keep pricing errors to myself.

Then there are the ever so stupid companies that shall remain nameless that catch their pricing error on Mad Men season 3 preorders and cancel your purchase but ship you the item any way. I had ordered 3 of DVD and 3 Blu-ray BTW.
