Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost (Spring Tour) Confirmed!

http://lambgoat.com/news/17599/Masto...tour-confirmed

In an interview conducted on Thursday in Belgium, Mastodon bassist/vocalist confirmed that the band will indeed be touring North America this spring with Opeth and Ghost, as has been rumored as-of-late. The trek will reportedly kick off in April, with an official announcement expected shortly.

Need dates now. I'm ecstatic for a bill like this. I was going to see Ghost next month, but maybe I'll hold off.

I'll go because I want to see Ghost, even though they're extremely cheesy lyrically.

Ok I hope that's a split bill because there's no way Opeth should be opening for fucking Mastodon.

Maybe Opeth will play a, um, more traditional set this time. Their tour last year was mostly songs from their new album, along with a few songs with only clean vocals; not how I wanted my first Opeth concert to sound, but I'm holding out for awesomeness this time.

If you are talking about Mastodon and Opeth Co-Headlining, I could see that happening.

I could definitely see it happening if it's only a 3 band tour and no additional bands (local or not) get added.

Yeah that's what I meant. I'm not a fan of Mastodon at all but I recognize they have some stature in the scene. But I don't see them being a bigger draw than Opeth. I would also hope Opeth reverts to playing a more balanced mix of tunes and not just stuff in the vein of the new record.

Mastodon is at least just as big as Opeth, especially now that Opeth did that nonmetal album.

Mastodon and Opeth both appeal to different ends of the prog metal spectrum, and I have no idea which one is "bigger." At first blush it seems like a sort of odd bill, but they're both bands on their top of their genres, so they could pull in fans of both without alienating anyone.

I think it's a good bill in general since none of the bands are really run of the mill. But I don't think it would be hard to give the edge to Opeth just based on career longevity and discography.

If their sets were equal lengths I'd prefer Opeth goes first. That way I can leave when they're done.

I'm predicting equal set lengths and Opeth will pull out the brutal material since they can't let Mastodon tear the place down all alone.

Now, please, for the love of fuck, don't play at the Gibson. I hope they book the Wiltern.

Indeed. I've seen Opeth at the Wiltern when they did one of their retrospective tours. No opening act and at least two songs from each album in chronological order, and I was front row in the first section of seats above the pit, eye-level with the stage and no obstructions. Unbelieveable. I remember seeing Alexi Laiho and Lacuna Coil's singer (Christina something?) in the audience that night. If you think she's beautiful on album covers, wait until you see her in person. Wow.

She was there? Damnit! I was down in the pit for that show, and all I got was Kenny G. He did flash the horns, though.

Re: Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost (Spring Tour) Confirmed!

I'd probably be down for this concert if they come to town. I'm not exactly jazzed about seeing another prog-rock Opeth concert, but the last one wasn't bad... if not quite as exciting as I'd hoped. I'm interested in seeing Mastodon, but I wouldn't see them without someone else on the bill. Ghost is one of my favorite new bands so I'd love to see them, although I wonder how exciting a show they put on all dressed up. I guess it comes down to ticket price to me... and whether Opeth is playing metal or (I'm guessing) not.

Hmm the Paramount would be a good place to see them, and i would be back from deployment in time. May have to think about catching them now since i missed Mastodon when they rolled through with Dethklok. Ghost is slowly growing on me too and I wouldnt mind seeing Opeth

Re: Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost (Spring Tour) Confirmed!

I'm still on the fence about this tour.

I'd like to see Mastodon since I haven't seen them since the Crack The Sky Tour. I'm seeing Ghost tomorrow night in a venue that holds maybe 250-270 max. I've never seen Opeth and I'd like to see them but as other have mentioned, they've been playing less and less of their old material.

May 04 - Calgary, AB - MacEwan Hall (M)
I hate this venue so much. It's literally a concrete-walled basement.

Re: Mastodon/Opeth/Ghost (Spring Tour) Confirmed!

Opeth played a festival yesterday and the setlist contained some heavier songs:

The Devil's Orchard
I Feel the Dark
Face of Melinda
Slither
Credence
To Rid the Disease
Folklore
Heir Apparent
The Baying of the Hounds
The Drapery Falls
Deliverance

While I don't like the venue, I got tickets for the Roseland show. I have seen Mastodon about 5 times now, so I am really going for Opeth.

That's not a bad setlist at all. The Heritage songs they've kept in are the better ones IMO.

Mikael did say in a recent interview that they'd have to pull out "the big guns" since they're playing with Mastodon.

Nice. That's a pretty good setlist.
