First Newt takes South Carolina and another Tom Brady Super Bowl. Old Lucifer has been busy this week.

It's good to see the Patriots in the SB... the city of Boston hasn't had any championship appearances in any of the 4 sports over the last 10 years.

Someone has to win.

God I hate Boston. I think more than NY (which I accepted long ago) and Philly (which goes without saying).

And they boo Bledsoe. rotfl

If anything, they can shut up with the 9ers or Giants beat them in the Super Bowl.

Coaching has been crap today. NO need for that call. ALso do whatever it takes to get Pollard on the Patriots. 2 first rounders.
Please, no. None of our starters would make it past the pre-season if they had to practice with Pollard every week.

Well at least we don't have to watch a Harbaugh brothers SB. Wonder if we get to watch the "Michigan Faceoff" or the "Rematch"?

Okay, I'm more of a hockey guy than a football buy, but can someone explain the rules as to why that Raven's touchdown was disallowed when the Pats guy stripped the ball from him after he caught it? Why wasn't that just immediately a touchdown when he caught it and brought both feet down?

In the past it would have been. But a "newish" rule is that you have to control the ball which usually means you make a "football move". It applies in the end zone and even out of bounds if you can believe that.

It is a stupid rule imo. I find it difficult to believe they eliminated the "if he would have come down in bounds if the defender hadn't hit him" because it was so subjective, but than added this rule

Is the platform a prop or something? Lame penalty.

Red Dog
01-22-12, 06:02 PM
That's close. Don't think it's enough to overturn. It should be a TD based on the Giants ineptitude alone.

Grand-fathered in celebration? lol!

But it doesn't only happen in Green Bay. Is it grandfathered in everywhere?

I'm still fuzzy on what the penalty was for. I don't think they ever reshowed the offense.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 06:08 PM
Grand-fathered in celebration? lol!

I honestly agree with that. How long have they been doing it.

The whole prop thing in general is stupid, though.

wmansir
01-22-12, 06:09 PM
Some BS about 'control' yet when running in, all the tip of the ball has to do is cross the line, then you can drop it

The difference is that the runner has already established possession so as soon as the ball enters the endzone under his control it's a TD and play is over.

With a pass play the receiver has to establish possession. I don't think there is any way that play would have been called a catch and fumble outside the endzone, so I don't see how they can call it a TD in the endzone.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 06:10 PM
Good catch by Nicks.

dsa_shea
01-22-12, 06:10 PM
Either you should be able to celebrate or not.

He had the ball in his hands, and two feet in bounds, then after he had two feet down the ball was knocked out. The ball was not moving, untill it got knocked out, but he all ready had two feet down, so it should have been a TD

You have to establish possession, even in the end zone. Super slo-mo which makes it seems like he had the ball for 3 sec. doesn't count.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 06:16 PM

What was that?

Red Dog
01-22-12, 06:17 PM

Niners are going to sit on this lead as long as they have it.

Decker
01-22-12, 06:19 PM
Man the Niners are lucky. Should have turned the ball over twice in the past three plays.

dsa_shea

Correct. As his second foot was about to come down, the ball was dislodged from his control. The ball was moving within his grasp as his second foot touched. Incomplete. It is easy to see it was incomplete.

Ky-Fi
01-22-12, 06:20 PM

He had the ball in his hands, and two feet in bounds, then after he had two feet down the ball was knocked out. The ball was not moving, untill it got knocked out, but he all ready had two feet down, so it should have been a TD

Again, your making the assumption the second he caught it and both feet down, the play should be over. Again, in the past that was the case. Just like in the past the ground could not cause a fumble.

But all that has changed. The definition of "control" is where the player not only controls it but must maintain control through a football move. In or out of bound.

The classic example right now is if the receiver dives for a catch near the sideline and clearly catches the ball and clearly has both feet in bounds but as he lands on the ground the ball comes out. Even if this is out of bounds it is NOT considered a catch.

Knowing that, the NFL will probably create a rule soon to allow fair catches and then running....to generate more points.

01-22-12, 06:56 PM
It looked like the play clock stopped running while the game clock kept going. I thought there was more time on the game clock before the two minute warning and that SF should have had to snap it or take the penalty.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 06:59 PM
Running Gore on 2nd and 11? Not sure I agree with that.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 07:01 PM
That was a big pile of shit. Giants get the ball to start the second half, too.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 07:16 PM
Not happy with the game so far. Not giving up, as it could easily be like 24-7 Giants.

But the 49ers hard hitting defense is still in last weeks game. Outside of that bomb to Davis, the offense is non existent.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 07:27 PM
Nice hold after the 9 yard gain on the first down.

dsa_shea
01-22-12, 07:27 PM
That hit on the receiver was a little late if you ask me.

Red Dog
01-22-12, 07:27 PM

01-22-12, 07:39 PM
49ers keep laying out the red carpet. Pretty soon Manning is gonna find Cruz for a long bomb like Brees found Sproles/Graham late.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 07:44 PM
People talking all week about how the 49ers had the advantage because of the field conditions, yet they are struggling as well.

nickdawgy
01-22-12, 07:47 PM
VD again. Nice to see.

Red Dog
01-22-12, 07:47 PM

Don't know if they mentioned this on the broadcast yet or not, but if the Niners win, they will be the 11th different team from the NFC to play in the past 11 Super Bowls. In a conference with only sixteen teams, that's pretty amazing.

49ers keep laying out the red carpet. Pretty soon Manning is gonna find Cruz for a long bomb like Brees found Sproles/Graham late.

It's definitely reminding me of last week's game against the Saints.

Niners are letting the Giants hang in this game way too long.

nickdawgy

Yep. Didn't Eli just set a record for most 4th quarter TD's?

Amazing that there hasn't been a single NFC team to play in two Superbowls in over a decade -- after the dominance that the Giants, Niners and Cowboys had in the 80s and 90s. And amazing that there have only been five teams in the NFC that haven't been to a Superbowl this century and that one of them is the Cowboys.

I honestly believe that it doesn't matter who wins this game, the Patriots will win the SB. I'm not a fan of any team left it just seems like these two teams playing tonight aren't the same caliber. Course, I didn't think a 9-7 team would be on the cusp of playing in the SB either so who knows. That's why they play the game. A lot of years, 9-7 wouldn't even get you in the playoffs.
