Here's my first guess of the top Bracketbusters matchups. I think they get announced in two weeks:

Northern Iowa at Murray State
St. Mary's at Creighton
Wichita State at Iona
Long Beach State at Oral Roberts
Nevada at Missouri State

The home pool of teams is definitely more stacked than the road pool, based on RPI, so after the first 5 or so matchups, you have some mild mismatches. Plus I'm guessing that Butler is going to get a TV game, even if they aren't particularly worthy.

Here are the pools:

Nice job by the Cards to get back in it. I thought they were done.

Phew....Mizzou -15.5 pays.

McDonough, Raft, and Bilas....Big Monday time. Wish they were calling the B12 game tonight though.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk. Best all-around performance by Tyshawn Taylor since he's been at KU.

Decker
01-17-12, 12:46 AM
Just came back from a KU watch party. I'm still not convinced this is a Final Four caliber team away from Allen Fieldhouse, but damn they looked good tonight. Tyshawn looked great and didn't pull his typical stunt of turning the ball over every third possession. Thomas Robinson was awesome with a 27 & 14 night. He's really staking a claim on Player of the Year honors. What a year he's having. I wish this team was deeper, but they have heart and toughness. It will be interesting to see how they do when they face a tough team on the road. They still have to play at Springfield, Manhattan and Waco this season, so there's lots of work left to do.

Trey Burke is really fuckin' great

Nice win. Thought they were done after giving up the sizeable lead. They played great D in the last minute.

Huge win for Bucknell at Lehigh to get to 4-0 and a 2-gm cushion over Lehigh....next 2 are at home so hope they keep the momentum going.

Seton Hall and UConn wasn't a good parlay. Oh well.

Indiana falls to Nebraska. B10 is tough.

Murray State had a tough one at Morehead State but held on to remain undefeated.

Crean is 2-29 on the road at Indiana.

San Diego State up by 7 AT New Mexico with 37 seconds left.

This has been a great game...

edit - Final Score:

SDSU - 75
UNM - 70

Not bad for a rebuilding year for SDSU (after losing 4 starters from last year's team).

Huge win for the Aztecs in the Pit!

San Diego State is 50-5 in their last 55 games, and their only losses in that time have come to top 25 teams. That's pretty impressive.

01-19-12, 11:19 PM
Hopefully the new Illinois AD views last weeks win over Ohio St as the fluke that it was when deciding the future of Bruce Weber. Losing 4 out of the last 5 at Penn St alone is grounds for firing.

Expecting to read that Dexter Strictland has been lost for the season over the next day or two. His knee injury last night in the win @ Virginia Tech looked nasty, and I just can't imagine that it was simply a sprain or strain. For a UNC team that is short on perimeter defense, this would be a huge blow.

If it comes down to foul shooting, UK is in big trouble.

sven
01-21-12, 01:57 PM
Well it should be interesting to see how Michigan handles Arkansas' pace today.

EDIT: Sparty crushing Purdue today. Not that surprising though. Purdue doesn't have a whole lot outside of Hummel. If you slow him down they don't have much of a shot......and Robbie went 0-11 from the field today.

Red Dog
01-21-12, 02:02 PM
Bama ain't much better from the line. Hard to believe these are the 2 best foul shooting teams in the SEC.

I don't know. There are a number of contenders right now: Haith, Fisher, Boeheim, Prohm, and a few others. Hard to say there is a favorite right now.

01-21-12, 04:43 PM
If Creighton is this good now, they should be scary good next year. They have nearly everyone coming back. I hope they get St. Mary's in the BB.

Cincy and WVU in OT on the U.

First time ever in his career he didn't hit a FG. Sparty D.

HistoryProf
01-21-12, 06:40 PM
he's been in a slump of late though, and they didn't get to the Breslin until 10am (noon tipoff) because their flight was grounded yesterday and had to take a bus that left WL at 4:30am. As much as I'd like to give MSU credit for shutting him down, it was pretty predictable that they would shoot poorly today, and most of their misses were typical of a tired team: short iron.

I watched 1st and 10 this morning with Katz and Gottleib, 2 of the few ESPN guys I actually respect (I can do without the 3 Stooges on Gameday) and they said Cuse would lose in the regular season, but definitely not today.

Yeah...I don't know why ESPN can't move games around for basketball on reasonably short notice. I'll be more interested in the Murray State game and the UNLV/NM game - that should be good.

Got a nice late night WCC game too - love those.

Yeah...

Unfortunately, I can't argue with this with as bad as both of these two teams have looked this year.

Glad to see the Cards on the verge of a victory in a must-win situation.

Largest margin of defeat in a conference game for Holy Cross in their 22 years in the Patriot League.

For a small conference team, they still have a very loyal and passionate following (given their history), and their board is exorcise head coach Milan Brown.

Yes we are. I just don't have any feeling left for Illini basketball. Weber has completely drained it out of me. He is completely clueless on how to coach offense. They are killing him on the illini boards right now. Someone said he has one more left on his contract, not sure how true that is but anything short of a Sweet 16 appearance and he needs to be gone. He's getting the players in state and doesn't use them. Continues to use that Sam Madagascar or whatever his name is and Tyler Griffey who suck beyond belief. I think me and you, MrX could take those two in a game of 2 on 2.
