Netflix Users - Choosing Titles To Watch...

Not sure about everyone else, but I have an addiction to adding titles to my queue. Currently I have 192 titles in my DVD/Blu Ray queue and 150 in my Instant queue. I guess it's not a bad thing, it's just that I often spend a ton of time deciding what I want to watch instantly or select for my next title to be mailed. Do you all mess around with your queue too, or just watch in order?

Re: Netflix Users - Choosing Titles To Watch...

Mine got too big and I stopped going into it. Actually, I finally went in there this weekend and deleted a majority of the things so that it would become useful for me again (instant only). I wish it would default to the last item added when it shows up on my Xbox, then I would probably get more use out of it.

Re: Netflix Users - Choosing Titles To Watch...

Having a big queue isn't an issue. It's a way for me to keep track of what things I'm interested in seeing eventually. Can't say I spend a lot of time on what to watch though. I generally let things just come to me in the mail ... for some things, it was so long since I set the order that it's a bit of a surprise what shows up on my doorstep Instant items are when I'm in the mood to watch something. What I do spend time on with my Instant queue is keeping track of when Netflix loses the right to certain titles, and making sure I watch those titles in time. Sometimes Netflix is good about giving you a reminder date ... other times they're not (and I needed that info from another site).

If you have a huge Netflix Queue, there's an easy way to organize it. Get the Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox. Then add the Netflix Queue Sorter.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir.../greasemonkey/
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/35183

I've got about 300 titles in my instant queue, so having them grouped by genre makes it much easier to browse.

I maxed out my Queue years back (a 500 movie limit? Come on!) and only occasionally change it up. Might have to check out that Firefox add on.

Re: Netflix Users - Choosing Titles To Watch...

Some great movies I have seen through the Instant Queue:
1. Moon (2009) - one of the best unknown Sci Fi films
2. Red Baron (2009) - great WWI film from a German perspective but in English
3. Exit through the Gift Shop - loved this documentary, have watched it twice
4. The Fighter - probably the biggest recent box office smash available on instant
5. The Art of the Steal - tragic story about one of the greatest art collections in the world

Re: Netflix Users - Choosing Titles To Watch...

I have by mail & streaming:What I do is start with a set amount of movies in your queue. Then assign specific slots for specific kinds of movies.

Something like:

Slot 1 - Slot 10 - Movies from your to watch list
Slot 11 - Slot 20 - New Releases/lesser known movie list/1001 movies to see before you die (get idea)
Slot 20+ - TV Show Season/Series

Then when the queue empties start again, refilling the slots with whatever you assigned to them. This gives you variety, and breaks up the movie grind by having some tv.Depending on your plan, should last you about a month.During which you can still add to that to watch list.

Anyways you get the idea. You aren't overwhelmed by what all you have to watch, and you have periods of discovery of other things you might like.

Re: Netflix Users - Choosing Titles To Watch...

I'm not strickly a new release junkie myself, so i don't really have to worry about those wait times.Right now, I'm going through a lesser known movie list, a beginners guide to horror, as well as my own to watch list.

Would you be willing to share the lesser known movie list and the beginners guide lists? I am interested as to what is on them, and might want to jump on either if there is a large number I haven't watched (though that is unlikely with the horror list). Thanks!

Off the top of my head, I would add The Shining to the horror movie list. Also, once you've seen a bunch, you should check out Scream.
