Whatcha Gonna Do? The COPS Thread
I've never gotten sick of COPS, it's always a facinating 30 minute journey following these officers in the line of duty.
I really liked the premiere from this season where you follow a wife's attempt to have her husband killed, all three segments were dedicated to this case, from the undercover cop meeting with her, the husband being informed of the plot, the cops setting up a fake crime scene, to the wife getting charged. I especially liked the part where she pulls up to the house thinking that the died was done and watching her fake reaction. Always fascinating television.

I need to check out that Season Premiere, sounds pretty good.
They also rerun this on a ton of stations like G4 all the time. It's like no matter how much I watch it, I never see the same episodes. Love that.

Meh, I've been watching this show for 24 years and I find it consistently lacklustre (yet I keep watching). The most dramatic segment is always the first one, with some doper bolting from cops as they're slapping on the manacles. Thereafter it's just routine, uneventful stuff in the second and third segments.
It's creditable that the producers have kept the show so pure and unembellished, but surely they could cobble together more exciting footage for a weekly half-hour.

I still watch from time to time. What's fascinating is watching an episode, and trying to guess the year it was produced. Even the 20 year old episodes look like they could've been filmed last week. Watching the older ones, I wonder what's since happened to the ones involved. You hope they've turned their lives around, but it's more than likely been much of the same ever since for them.

^Yes, it might be interesting to learn what has happened to some of the more memorable subjects, but that would contravene the show's seemingly strict policy of non-editorialism.
There haven't been many memorable shows or moments over 25 years, sad to say. I do vividly remember the crazy van driver who was chased down the freeway, caused a number of accidents along the way, and was only stopped when he was involved in a pile-up at an intersection. That was possibly the single most intense segment ever. For once, the cops lost their cool and looked like they wanted to give this clown a serious beatdown for possibly costing several people their lives.
-The car in which the "Cops" camera crew was travelling t-boned another at a residential intersection.
-There was the long chase many years ago in Houston of a guy in pickup truck, which ended when he ran into a ditch under the freeway.
-There was the cop who, responding to a fire, broke into the wrong house.
-A couple of years ago, they were chasing a fat-pig murder suspect, and when they caught up with him at a gas station he pretended to be asleep.
-There was the guy in Boston many, many years ago who complained that he had received too few fried chicken balls from a Chinese fast food joint. Also in Boston, the guy walking down the highway with a knife who ended up lunging at an officer and being shot.
-A few years ago in Oregon or somewhere, the cop who chased a pickup off-road, got stuck in some high grass, and had his police car catch fire as the chasee drove away. In a similar vein, an older segment had a cop chase a motorcyclist off-road until the cop car got stuck on some railroad tracks. A train was in sight, but luckily veered off onto a parallel rail.
-The woman in Washington State who lunged at officers with a knife, but was tackled and impaled on selfsame knife.

I think some of my favorite moments was once a naked black guy broke into a shop and shots were fired.
Another was when the camera man actually got involved using his camera light to apprehend the suspect

I love the format of the show, one segment is always exciting, one is funny and one makes you think. What I can't stand are the episodes where all 3 segments are domestic disturbances, those are never fun to watch.
some of my favorites over the years
- Any time a really old guy is busted with a young prostitute
- A couple years back a guy fell asleep in his car at a traffic light in the middle of the day with a bong next to him.
- The man who couldn't understand why the cops though he had been doing drugs that night while he had a joint behind his ear
- A cop pulled over a car and as he is talking with the driver another car hits a man on a bike right next to them
- The unoccupied car behind the casino in vegas that is spinning aroung in circles in reverse. The cop got on the inside of the circle, broke the passenger window and hopped in.
- The one legged cop who chases down a young crack addict

Actually the cop beleived he had not done any drugs, and told him so and asked if he knew why he beleived him, and then pulls the joint from behind his ear.
I like the one in Philly w/ the fat naked black man in the barber shop that was shot - it took about 6 cops to bring him down.
One in Miami where the guy is running from the cops and the round the corner and he is holding up the K9 dog by the neck to keep him off of him. The guy was huge and holding the german sheppard like it was a terrier.

I really wish the second (rerun) episode would be from a much older season...I'm always bummed as it's always a recent one.
I'm glad the show's back though...if I'm home on a Saturday night, it's must see TV for me.

Thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea they were still producing new shows. I thought it was gone, along with AMW.

Happened to see this on google news, crewmember critically wounded in a shootout during filming
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...d-in-shootout/
Wonder how the show will deal with that, if at all.
Update: crew member died. That could potentially be the end of the show.
Update2: The bad guy only had an airsoft gun, which means the crew member appears to be have been struck by police fire.
