The Dictator - Sasha Baron Cohen's latest

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=85121

Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for The Dictator, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, Megan Fox, John C. Reilly and J.B. Smoove.

Opening in theaters on May 11, the comedy tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.

The Dictator was directed by Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno, "Curb Your Enthusiasm").

There were a couple funny lines in the trailer but I absolutely despised Borat so I'll rent it expecting the worst but hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

HUGO taught me that I never want to see Borat in another film again, no matter what he calls himself. Megan Fox's participation might get me to change my mind, depending on how big a part she has. Anna Faris is a plus, also. But I doubt I'll see this on a big screen.

I think it looks funny and I liked Borat, Bruno was only okay though.

Somewhere near the Megan Fox scene I thought it was Weird Al in the title role.

Racism, sexism, random acts of comedic violence, and a 9/11 joke all in a two-minute green band trailer?

I'm there!

interesting...

I actually would want to see this. Borat I can't handle for too long. Short bursts at most. But not the whole film..it just isn't for me.

I liked Da Ali G show, but Cohen's smug British twat schtick and "I'm determined to prove what a bunch of uniquely racist, stupid, insular homophobes Americans are" agenda get old after a while.

I think John Turturro is better than this. Seriously, that's probably one of the worst trailers I've ever seen. It's Love Guru bad. It's not at all like Borat or Curb Your Enthusiasm, it's an Adam Sandler flick. Truly horrendous.

So are we finally realizing Sacha Baron Cohen is a hack and always has been?

I thought Borat was pretty well done... the TV episodes, not so much the movie but yes, I would tend to agree with you after seeing this trailer.

Re: The Dictator - Sasha Baron Cohen's latest

I liked Borat, but people were falling head over heels for that movie. Bruno was less good, up until that final scene I was ready to say it was quite mediocre.

I chuckled at the aids line and laughed at that race scene in this trailer. I'd need to see more, but based on this I'd wait until DVD, especially with so much coming out this summer.

I liked Sacha Baron Cohen in Sweeney Todd and Hugo, as well as in Borat, and to a lesser extent Bruno. He can do good work, but I'm wondering how he will pull off Freddie Mercury.

Re: The Dictator - Sasha Baron Cohen's latest

People are laughing at my country - don't like!

Borat was a work of genius. Bruno was middling. This looks like a stinker. SBC has had two great comedic creations which is precisely two more than the vast majority of comedians. I think he's been pretty damn successful at what he does.

the funny thing is that it seems like you could probably plop adam sandler in this character and the movie would come out the same. all the same stupid noises and accents he does.

Re: The Dictator - Sasha Baron Cohen's latest

I just picked up Ali G--Indahouse, the movie a couple weeks ago. Kind of along the lines of Cabin Boy for me----I can recognize that a lot of people would consider it terrible, but I couldn't stop laughing.

Can't stand Sasha Baron Cohen..I don't normally thread crap but he's one of the few actors I genuinely dislike. Never have found anything he's done to be remotely funny.
