The ACC is 10-2 in the 12 Challenges to date, but the B1G has won the last 2.

The SEC and Big East expanded their series from a 4-game deal with neutral sites to a full blown 12-game event at campus/home sites. Marquette, USF, Notre Dame, and Villanova are not included this season.

Look forward to seeing Louisville up close for the first time this season. They've got their hands full with a veteran Long Beach State team and Vanderbilt to follow.

Interesting tidbit on Basketball Prospectus....5 of the last 7 NCAA champs won an early season tournament that season.

This looks like the most evenly matched ACC/B1G challenge to date. Mostly because there's a whole lot of crap after you get past the top two or three teams in each conference.

This is pretty much the B1G's last chance to win it if Pitt and Syracuse are in the ACC next year.

LBSU has disappointed after the Pitt win. You get Vandy at the right time - Xavier will likely take a lot out of them tonight.

The bottom of the ACC is really bad this year. BC is atrocious. Maryland is terrible. Clemson is really struggling. Wake's actually improved, but that's not saying much after hitting rock bottom last season.

Wake lost by 26 to an Arizona St. team that's lost to Fairfield, DePaul, and Pepperdine. They're still pretty bad.

Nice job by the Xavier coach not to call a TO there and let his guy take it to the hoop. Tie game. 6.5 secs left. Some really good defense in this game. Few easy shots.

Duke a 7 1/2 pt dog. Been a long time since I've seen that.

If the ACC is going to win this, they have to get wins from UVA and GT tonight and 1 from either Duke or Clemson. I don't think Maryland and Miami stand a chance.

It's hilarious how little attention the Duke game is getting on Ohio St. sites.

On rivals there's isn't a single mention of it, but there's two stories with speculation on who Meyer will hire onto his staff:lol:

Clemson up 20.

Not exactly a scintillating night. Blowout after blowout. Looks like a 4-2 night for the B1G. The GT loss is the one that hurts the ACC. They'll be hard pressed to manage to tie this tomorrow. They're going to have to sweep the home games (which with BC will be tough) with VT winning at Minny just to get that. I can't see FSU nor Wake winning on the road.

This could be the year. Having Shurna as a Senior will help. They're off to a good start, although we've seen this before. They have a couple more interesting games left before B10 play starts. They host Baylor and they're actually traveling to Creighton.

Well, Ohio State played up to their #2 ranking, but Duke sure didn't look like a #4 team, so what's the problem with that chant? It's not a relative thing, so Ohio State's ranking is immaterial. It just means Duke is overrated at #4 in the country.

Red Dog
11-30-11, 12:53 PM
Well I was a bit surprised that Duke was getting 7.5 last night, but that turned out to be blow out city. Now I'm surprised that Wisky is getting 7 tonight. This seems like a good matchup for them. Is Barnes playing?

Yes, the fans did a rational analysis of the merits of the Duke basketball team in comparison to their perceived national standing, and collectively decided to inform the viewers watching at home of the results of their study.

Yes, the fans did a rational analysis of the merits of the Duke basketball team in comparison to their perceived national standing, and collectively decided to inform the viewers watching at home of the results of their study.I think the fans saw that Duke was coming to our fair city, assumed, based on their ranking and past history as a team of quality players (albeit with certain moral failings), that there would be a contest. As soon as it was clear that a contest was not to be had, the fans did what fans do - they taunted. If you want to make fun of Buckeye fans for being Buckeye fans then go ahead, but be aware of why you're doing it.

WallyOPD
11-30-11, 02:21 PM
People aren't picking on Buckeye fans. Any time fans do the chant it's mocked. Chanting "overrated" is saying your win is less impressive than the opponent's current rating would make it seem. It's an insult to your team as much as it is the other team. I'm dismayed when Arizona's fans chant it, as well.

I think most people would agree that calling them dumbasses is picking on them.

This logic doesn't really hold up because it doesn't take into account how you beat your opponent. If you dominate the other team and beat them by 20+ points, but they are ranked just below you, then your win is exactly what it should have been for a highly rated team, but the opponent didn't play up to their ranking. If the game is close the whole time and you only beat them by 1, well that's another story.

New Mexico St. can't be too happy with their fans. They called for a "whiteout" for their home game last night against Arizona, but only a few hundred people wore white. They also had a couple thousand empty seats, and some of their fans started throwing things at the Arizona bench late in the game. Not exactly making it appealing for future visits from high majors.

Dammit. They lose by 4. It was a nip & tuck game throughout the 2nd half after Bucknell was down 7 at the half. Bucknell had 3 great looks with around a minute left to take the lead and a chance to tie in the final seconds. Ayers played a very good game.

Red Dog
11-30-11, 09:08 PM

Good win by my Spartans tonight against a very strong FSU team. They went toe to toe on D and some of the younger guys are starting to really show they can be very very good. Anybody see the end of the Georgetown game last night? That was a great finish. Looked like they were easily going to win it, but Bama went on a 10-0 run to take a 1 point lead with 15 secs left. Then the Hoyas ran a sweet screen to get Hollis Thompson free on a 3 with a couple secs left. Bama almost hit the desperation half-courter at the buzzer. That's a great road win for a young Hoyas team.

Looking forward to the ESPN games tonight....really good matchups. Good to have college hoops on a Friday night, particularly since the P12 football game will be decided by the end of the 1st quarter.
