Contagion - 01/03/12

Per DVD Active:

Warner Home Video has announced DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo releases of Contagion which stars Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet. Each will be available to own from January 3rd. The only extra material on the DVD release will be a Contagion: How a Virus Changes the World featurette. We're still awaiting confirmation on Blu-ray extra features. Further details as we get them.

Additional info from blu-ray.com:

Warner's Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The disc also contains the following bonus supplements:

Three behind-the-scenes featurettes:
- Contagion: How a Virus Changes the World
- The Reality of Contagion
- The Contagion Detectives

Awful cover art. At least the DVD artwork has some better floating heads.

I'm assuming placeholder art...

also...I wanted more features. "featurettes" don't sound like they'll be long...

I thought it was a good movie, but it was one of the film that falls into 'seen it, never have to again' catagory though.

I'll probably pick it up. It's definitely something I'd like to watch again.

Should be the permanent artwork. The DVD is using the theatrical poster.

This will also be available in a BD only release.

Question... if there is a BD only release and a BD/DVD combo release then why is there a DVD release?

For the millions who probably won't ever upgrade to BD. There will be DVD only options for quite some time, at least for new releases.

I didn't see it in theaters so this will be a blind buy.

And I hope this release gets a lenticular slipcover.

But there's a combo release... just seems counter productive. Also, the BD-only release has better art, IMO.
