IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

IndieRoyale is a new site offering bundles of indie games every 2 weeks. The bundle price starts low, around $1.99, but increases in price as more people buy it. Pay the minimum price for all the games, or pay over the minimum to both support the developers, and drive the minimum price back down.

They currently just launched their second bundle, with 5 games normally priced about $35 total:
http://www.indieroyale.com/

Info on games in the bundle:

Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please! (normally $4.99)

Fate of the World (normally $9.99)

NightSky (normally $9.99)

Their site is getting hammered right now, but I managed to get an order through after a few refreshes.

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

Thanks for the heads-up. That's a nice bundle, but they really need to re-think how they want to do this. The way they set up this bundle encourages people to buy it right away before the prices go up (as opposed to Humble Bundle which has no minimum price), but clearly their site can't handle the traffic they encourage, which is very frustrating for the consumer. Anyway, I got in after several attempts, but can't get any Steam Keys yet. I think it took a day last time with Bundle #1.

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

Yeah, the front-loading is an issue. Their first bundle didn't have this issue, as it took a while for the word to get out.

It looks like they've taken the bundle down, for now. From their twitter account:

http://twitter.com/#!/indieroyale
Seems "difficult 2nd" bundle was an appropriate choice of words... we thought we had more than enough capacity!

Very sorry about the site, too many HTTP requests. Adding more webservers and once it stabilizes in a few hours - we will reset the price

Can't load the site. Regarding Scoregasm, do you get Steam/Desura keys, and are the Mac and Linux versions included?

EDIT: YES!

Yep. Steam/Desura keys are available for all the games, and Scoregasm has Windows, Mac, and Linux versions included, although only the Windows version is available on Steam.

From their FAQ:
Steam, Desura, Windows, Mac, Linux... How do I know if the games in a bundle are available for a particular platform?
As part of the Indie Royale service, we try to offer as many different versions of each game as possible. If a game has Mac and Linux versions available alongside the Windows versions, we will make sure to offer these as part of your bundle.

The majority of bundled games will also be available via the Desura digital distribution platform, so that you can keep all of your games together in one place - a Desura key will be provided in these cases so that you can activate your games via Desura.

Finally, if any games are available via the Steam digital distribution service, you will also be provided with Steam keys to activate your games via Steam. If you look underneath a game on the Indie Royale front page, you'll see that it says "Available on:" - this tells you exactly what systems and platforms the game is available for. For example, if it says "Available on: Windows, Desura, Steam", this means that you get a Steam key, Desura key and a standalone Windows download for the game, but the game does not come with Mac or Linux versions.

Here's what the site says for each game's availability:
NightSky
available on: windows, desura, steam

Fate of the World
available on: windows, mac, desura, steam

Scoregasm
available on: windows, mac, linux, desura, steam (windows only)

Ben There, Dan That! and Time Gentlemen, Please!
available on: windows, desura, steam

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

Only about a day left on the bundle. Current price is $4.10

2 bonus games have been added, both shooters from Charlie's Games (Scoregasm): Bullet Candy Perfect and Irukandji.

Both games are available on all three platforms (windows, mac, linux), and have desura keys, but aren't on Steam. On desura, these games are $2.99 each, although you can pay a minimum of $1 each at the developer's site:
http://www.charliesgames.com/scoregasm/buy.html

Also added was all of the DLC for Fate of the World, effectively making it Fate of the World: Tipping Point, an extra $9 value.

Finally, downloadable soundtracks for NightSky and Scoregasm were added, which are normally $5 each:
http://schlarb.bandcamp.com/album/nightsky-soundtrack
http://www.charliesgames.com/scoregasm/buy.html

Combined with the original games, the total value of the bundle is somewhere between $56-$60. That means that as long as the minumum price is under $5.60, you can save over 90%.

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

They've made some changes to their system. They now take pre-orders for the next bundle, although you're buying blind since you don't know what games will be in it. Also, they're not sticking to a strict every-two-weeks schedule anymore. They're also upping the initial live minimum purchase price to $2.99.

The next bundle goes live tomorrow, Nov 29th.

Letter from IndieRoyale
http://www.indieroyale.com/newsletter/80
In order to minimize disruption in the future - and provide more options for you, the Indie Royale customer, we're making the following changes:
  • We'll be removing a strict schedule of one Indie Royale bundle every two weeks. You can still sign up or follow us to find out when the bundle goes live. And we won't be changing our general concept and list of upcoming bundles. But we're continuing to target the near-term for the next Really Big Bundle, which will now launch next week [UPDATE: on Tuesday, Nov. 29th!] after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.
  • We now realize (and our smouldering servers agree!) that there are a lot of people who are waiting when the next Indie Royale bundle launches. In many cases, you may be reloading patiently to buy it almost no matter what, since it's such good value for money. So we're now opening pre-orders for the next Indie Royale bundle, at a recommended contribution of USD $5 but a minimum price of USD $3.99 (current and future Indie Royale bundles will launch at an initial live minimum of $2.99.)
  • Why do pre-orders? We know that you're all busy people, and you may actually not be on the Internet (?!) the second it launches. So it's a simple way to guarantee you get the Bundle, albeit sight unseen. This means that you won't know what games are in the bundle until it launches. But you are guaranteed to get the bundle at a low minimum price, and you will be supporting hand-picked, high quality independent games along the way.
(We guarantee at least four different games for each bundle, all of them playable on Windows PC in some form. Additional games and formats may - or may not - be supported! And of course, you can just wait for your email/Tweet/Facebook message that the Bundle has gone live and go pick it up then, if you're signed up with us.)
Pre-order page (starting price is $3.99):

Pre-orders of $5+ get a free MP3 album, Fez composer Disasterpeace's chiptune LP 'Rise Of The Obsidian Interstellar'

You can still get the bonus album (FLAC or MP3) if you pay enough to earn a star (which also drops the price for others). Currently, stars cost a minimum of $10:

The IndieRoyale bundle has been updated with some bonuses.

First, a bonus game, Greentech+, which puts you in charge of a hurricane that can steer polluted winds into cleansing factories. This game is windows only, with no steam or desura keys. This game is $3.95 if bought separately.

Next, the soundtrack for The Oil Blue was added. This soundtrack can be bought separately as pay-what-you-want here:

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

The New Years Bundle is now up for blind pre-order for as little as $3.99.

Slightly altered copy from their site:
PREORDER THE NEW YEAR'S BUNDLE
You can now blind pre-order Indie Royale's New Year's Bundle - which includes PC and Mac versions of all games - at a recommended €/£/$5 to €/£/$10 USD contribution, and a minimum of $3.99 USD.

The titles to be offered will include:
  • A premium blend of FPS and RTS (Steam for PC and Mac)
  • An innovative single-player puzzle game (Steam for PC and Mac, Desura for PC, DRM-free PC and Mac download)
  • An award-winning 2D platformer (Steam for PC and Mac, plus an enhanced version for Desura PC, DRM-free PC and Mac download)
  • A world premiere on PC/Mac for an acclaimed arcade shooter with a twist (Desura for PC, DRM-free PC and Mac download).

Those who optionally pre-order now will get game access as soon as the bundle launches, lock in their price, and receive as a bonus George & Jonathan's raved-about electronic chiptune funk album 'Beautiful Lifestyle' (this bonus is also available to those who pay more than the minimum price during the bundle.)

The New Year's Bundle will launch fully later this week at $2.99 USD and up - watch our Twitter feed or Facebook page for immediate notice at launch time.
You can pre-order here:
http://www.indieroyale.com/cart

It'd be interesting to try and guess what the games will be based on their descriptions and available platforms.

OK, many people are guessing that the game that's "a premium blend of FPS and RTS" is Nuclear Dawn.

Personally, I'm guessing that the "acclaimed arcade shooter with a twist" is Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, currently only on Xbox Arcarde.

I don't think you debut a game of that size and quality for essentially free on the PC. There's too much lost revenue involved there. My guess is that it's one of the two radiangames Indie games that are coming soon to the PC (Super Crossfire and Inferno+ ) Either makes much more sense here.

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

IndieRoyale's newsletter has a few more notes on their New Year's bundle:
http://www.indieroyale.com/newsletter/95

Super Crossfire for PC is now available on Desura for $5, but the Mac version is still exclusive to this bundle.:
http://www.desura.com/games/super-crossfire

The version of Max & The Magic Marker in this bundle is actually Max & The Magic Marker HD. According to IndieRoyale, "the HD version, released for the first time on PC and Mac, includes updated graphics and a completely different level structure and is available on Desura and as a DRM-free download."

The Desura price for Max & The Magic Marker HD for PC is $10, while Steam still sells the regular version for $20
http://www.desura.com/games/max-the-magic-marker
http://store.steampowered.com/app/50..._7_suggest__13

The bonus album, "Beautiful Lifestyle" by George & Jonathan, is normally $5 if purchased seperately:

If I already own Max on Steam, will this Steam code give me an HD version of the game, or is that a Desura-only version?

Re: IndieRoyale - Buy a Bundle of Indie PC Games

The New Years Bundle has already been updated with bonuses.

First off, the soundtracks for three of the games are now included: Max & The Magic Marker and a Fractal mini-EP in MP3, and Super Crossfire in MP3 and FLAC. There's also the OST for the iPad game Pulse in MP3, even though that game isn't included in this bundle.

Additionally, Radiangames has added the software "toy" Fun with Swarms. It's not technically a game, since there's no real objective or scoring. It looks like a fancier version of this tech demo:
http://radiangames.com/?p=875

Current minimum price is $4.30

It's not coming to Steam, and here the developer explains why:
http://maxandthemagicmarker.com/indieroyale/#comments
With the IndieRoyal Bundle you get actually two versions of the game, the original PC version and the HD version.

The difference between the two are not only the higher definition. The HD [version] also sports the 58 short level structure know from the iPad and iPhone, MacOS App [Store] version and from the PSN version. This structure is not compatible with the original and [therefore] the Steam version has never been updated, because it would screw up [everyone's] save games.

So if you want to experience the delicious HD version, which I highly recommend because of the much prettier graphics, you should play it standalone.

radiangames used to be a site where great games were available quickly and amazingly cheaply. Now I think the guy who runs it has lost his mind. He raised all his games in the Marketplace from $1 each up to $5 each, and now this? No thanks.

From what I've read, he raised the prices because he was losing money on the games releasing them at $1 each (80 MSP). He basically had to take contract work for 5 months because he lost so much money making cheap Xbox games.
