Metallica: Through The Never - in 3D (2013, D: Antal)
From Deadline:
The members of the heavy metal band Metallica are planning to self-finance a 3D feature film, I’m told. The band has hired producer Charlotte Huggins to get the ball rolling. She has produced the 3D films Journey to the Center of the Earth, and just completed the sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine and Josh Hutcherson. The band’s now looking for a director with the stones to direct a Metallica-style feature. This would be the first major film made by the band members, but Metallica has already made a strong impression on the medium. Their decision to lend their music to Paradise Lost, the 1996 documentary on the West Memphis 3 that was directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, helped give that film weight and helped create international outrage over how three teens could be convicted of mass murder without a shred of physical evidence but an abundance of innuendo. Prosecutors cited the defendants’ passion for Metallica music as a strike against them, and it took 17 years for the trio to finally be freed. The band then starred for Berlinger and Sinofsky in Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, a chronicle of the band’s attempt to mend discord through intensive therapy. One can only imagine what they’re planning for their first big feature. I will tell you more as I learn it.

I'm ok with this as long as Lou Reed isn't involved.

From Dark Horizons:
Metallica have set Nimród Antal ("Predators," "Kontroll") to direct their upcoming 3D feature film project reports Market Wire.
The project will combine narrative and concert elements starring the five members of the band and their fans. Shooting kicks off this August for a release in Summer next year.
Charlotte Huggins will produce. Antal says "we are going to harness the powerful and almighty energy of Metallica's live shows, inject a narrative into it, and shoot it in 3D to elevate the entire experience."

I'd be more interested in a documentary which chronicles all of James Hetfield's different facial hair styles over the last thirty years.

yes, because a concert film is a likely predecessor to that. I know you're joking a little, but still, comparing Metallica to KISS is laughable.

While I don't really like Metallica, I might see it for the 3D alone. The two-minute IMAX 3D trailer had more depth of field than the entire 131-minute running time of Pacific Rim.

I saw this tonight. I actually attended the concert they filmed for this movie too. The narrative that ran parallel to the concert was sort of half baked and didn't really go anywhere, but I still enjoyed it. The concert portion of the film was excellent. It really put you in the building and gave you what a real Metallica show feels like. The crowd was great too (at the theater), lots of screaming and cheering. My only beef would be that I wish it were a little longer and included a few more songs. Hopefully the blu ray will be an extended cut of the movie. Anyways, been a Metallica fan for close to 20 years and they never really disappointed me. I'd recommend checking this out. 4/5

So, they're coming out of the screen and sucking right in your face ? They used to be so cool. Then Lars ruined them forever. Even makes it hard to listen to their old stuff. I just keep wanting to punch Lars in the taint.
