Random Metal Re-visit Anthrax "Among"

I wore the grooves off Fistful of Metal. Then I wasn't too sure about the Armed and Dangerous EP. Spreading the Disease was a classic and I didn't think they could top it. Then came Among the Living. From the opening notes of the title track it was a crushing ride to the end. I immediately loved this album. I graduated from high school in May 1987. Our senior week at the shore was the same week Anthrax was playing with Testament at Pulsations nightclub in Glen Mills, PA. I drove home from the shore 2 hours so I wouldn't miss the show, and to this day I am so glad I did. They creamed it, and I saw I'm the Man performed for the first time. What a cool experience when you didn't know it was coming. In my eyes, they never topped Among the Living.

Track listing
No. Title Writer(s) Length
1. "Among the Living" Anthrax 5:16
2. "Caught in a Mosh" Anthrax 5:00

5. "A Skeleton in the Closet" Anthrax 5:32
6. "Indians" Anthrax 5:40
7. "One World" Anthrax 5:56
8. "A.D.I./Horror of It All" Anthrax 7:49

This album is awesome from among the living to Imitation of life it never let's up. Spreading the disease was good but this album takes it to another level. I am the Law, Caught in the mosh, skeleton's and Indians are my favorites.

I love all the Joey albums but this is undoubtedly the best. It's funny to look back and see they only really had 4 records in their prime (sorry I don't consider the Turbin or Bush eras their prime). So much good thrash came out of the mid to late 80's. And Benante was and still is a beast.

I was listening to Spreading the Disease today and that was bringing back some great memories also. Although there were some good tracks on State of Euphoria, I just never fully warmed up to it as a whole. I thought Persistence of Time was excellent, but still never came close to Among the Living.

Among is one of my all time favorite thrash albums. I've loved it since I was about 12 circa 1988.

Re: Random Metal Re-visit Anthrax "Among"

Just a heads up that Scott Ian and Charlie Benante will be on That Metal Show tonight.

And, yeah, Among is a great album.
