will probably get Spooky Buddies at some point, just not at that price. Other than that I'll probably check out the $4.99 comedies if I happen to be at Best Buy next week

I thought that too.
Minus the ad that happens on the week of Black Friday, I can't think of another ad not being a week long; Sunday - Saturday.
I'm guessing the date for the Examiner blog is wrong. I've been guilty of that too.

Unless Best Buy institutes a new sale length. If that's the fact, they've just screwed a lot of customers. I do buy my stuff on release day, but it's common for me to come back on Friday or so and pick up something else when I have some extra greenbacks. Should this be the case... they lost a chuck of my business.

Thanks for posting the ad...
Doesn't look like there's anything in the ad at a price I'm willing to pay, it appears their $4.99 sale items are mostly stupid comedies, but I'll check out the store anyway, never know what you might find. -kd5-

Well, looks like I will go and get Mad Men seasons 3 and 4. I got 1 and 2 off either BB or Amazon during their black friday weekend sales last year so will go ahead and get the others this weekend.

Best Buy is doing 2 ads next week. One from Sunday - Wednesday and a second one from Thursday - Saturday.
I have to go twice next week to pick up their ad?
A legacy project. I've been collecting the Best Buy ads since January 2005. Nobody keeps them. If I ever have a kid or so I can pull these out (they're in large manilla envelopes - two per year) and show him/her how techology has evolved. And how things used to be priced.

If I got a penny for every time I remember how much gas and subway fares used to be, I'd be rich

Well, their Sunday to Wednesday sale was a bust. With the exception of the new releases their sale items were pretty much the same as they were last week (and probably the week before that too). Nothing there for me. -kd5-

Okay. I'm back with updates.
Plural.
I became aware of this yesterday. So, lets start here first. I've underlined the important bit. Frack me.
Was over at my store a few hours ago. I was going to the information booth, but was lucky to find a guy in management, pulled him aside.
I am in Southern California. As it turns out, only one in my state will have the reduction; the store on the other side of Reche Canyon.
As for the remaining twenty-nine, I don't have list of those stores.
*shakes head* (article) I've been buying LESS since they've shrunk their media sections (DVDs and CDs). I'm believe I'm not the only one. Less equals... less.
Second.
This ad mess is a pilot program. Best Buy will give this partal week advertisement a limited run, see how people react to it. There will be only one printed ad, per week. Come Thursday, the sale will be exclusively listed online, that and allegedly those sales will be, as he said "substantial". But that's up for debate.
So there you. I hope your store isn't one of the thirty, that would royally suck.

Best Buy Q2 Income Falls 30%
(Home Media Magazine; September 19th - 25th, 2011)
by Erik Gruenwedel
Consumer electronics retailer's earnings hurt by same-store sales declines in TVs, video games and packaged media entertainment.
Best Buy Co. Sept. 13 reported second-quarter (ended Aug. 27) net income of $177 million, down 30% from net income of $254 million during the previous-year period.
The Minneapolis-based consumer electronics retailer cited the ongoing economic sluggishness and downward trend in overall CE industry sales for the downturn, underscored by a 2.8% decline in same-store sales (open at least 14 months).
"We're still facing an uncertain macro [economic] environment," CEO Brian Dunn said in a call with analysts.
Sales of televisions, including connected units and 3D, failed to impress with double-digit same-store sales declines. Best Buy continues to focus onsales of larger-screen TVs (from 46-inches), representing 60% of TV sales in the quarter.
"We went into this year with expectations that TV sales would be soft," CFO Jim Muehlbauer said during a call discussing the fiscal results.
Mobile phones stood out as a primary growth segment (despite year-over-year comp decline), along with tablet computers and appliances, with domestic same-store sales up 9%.
Best Buy continues to explore subleasing store space, including a 50% reduction in store space in 30 stores this year. Meanwhile, Best Buy added 12 Five Star CE stores in China, bringing its footprint in the country to 178 stores. Same-store comps in China increased 7%.
Domestic revenue dropped 1.5% to $8.3 billion, while total sales remained flat at $11.3 billion.

Re: Best Buy Media Prices (September 18 - 24, 2011)
Shrinking their media space is a stupid idea. The one in Ann Arbor has drastically cut their video game selection to boot, trying to rely on appliance/computer sales along with selling musical instruments. Good luck competing with big ticket stores with a little more cred.
