TORA! TORA! TORA! (1970) -- 12/6/11 (Digibook)
20th Century Fox has announced the U.S. Blu-ray debut of the 1970 WWII drama Tora! Tora! Tora! The war epic, which was a Japanese/U.S. co-production, chronicles the attack on Pearl Harbor from both an American and a Japanese perspective. Richard Fleischer (Fantastic Voyage) helmed the American scenes while Kinji Fukasaku and Toshio Masuda took over for Akira Kurosawa to handle the Japanese sequences.
Though the film was an initial box office disappointment in the U.S., it performed well in Japan and has been profitable for Fox on home video. The film features American actors Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotton, E. G. Marshall and James Whitmore. Japanese actors include Soh Yamamura, Tatsuya Mihashi and Takahiro Tamura. The film was awarded with a special effects Oscar at the 43rd Academy Awards.
Tora! Tora! Tora! will hit Blu-ray in a digibook containing rare photos from the Fox archives. The release will include the Japanese cut of the film as well, which adds 10 additional minutes of runtime. Stay tuned for an update listing the complete assortment of special features.
A release date of December 6th, 2011 has been set, which is one day before the 70th Anniversary of the actual attack on Pearl Harbor. Expect pre-orders to be up on Amazon soon.

Well, if you didn't get the Fox Blu-ray from overseas, where it's been available for quite some time now, then yes.
The Japanese version of the film is technically 3 minutes longer than the US cut, but since 7 "US minutes" were trimmed for Japan, that makes 10 minutes of footage exclusive to the Japanese cut.

One of my most wanted. Once again I'm wondering if they'll have the regular BR packaging at the same time or at least before Christmas. I got suckered into the Digibook for Gettysburg and then about two weeks later the regular packaging showed up. Anyone have the regular Gettysburg they wantr to trade for the Digibook?

if there are special features exclusive to this release, guess I'll have to sell off my UK bluray edition - which looks and sounds fantastic!

Unlike Pearl Harbor which was a fictional story based around the attack on Pearl Harbor with actual events thrown in, this movie is docudrama based on actual events. The interesting thing about this presentation is that half is presented from the Japanese point of view in Japanese with English subtitles. It is an excellent movie and an immediate "most wanted" on my list of upgrades even though I already have the SE.

Is there a regular release? I got suckered into getting the Gettysburg digibook and the regular one came out less than a month later. The Gettysburg digibook is still available for anyone who wants to trade for the regular release by the way.
