Yeah Lucas, Burton and Raimi.
Ridley Scott sits above Kazan, Hawks, Lean, Capra, Wyler and Cukor, among others.

A personal favorite, I know his output has been spotty but he had a nice run in the late 60's, 70's and 80's.

Yeah I'm sorry but I have zero interest in a best Directors in Hollywood history list that includes Tim Burton and Sam Raimi but doesn't include Samuel Fuller and Nicholas Ray.

Interesting, assuming it is only Americans/major Hollywood... they've got most the names there. Disagree with:
Coppola - 4 great flicks but 3 terrible decades after. To me a great director will deliver year after year.
Tarantino - he's alright but soulless.. put PT Anderson there instead
Peter Jackson - too early, so far he only has LOTR.
Mel Brooks - good comedy but not really a director
George Lucas - as a producer sure but take him off the greatest directors list
Sam Raimi - yawn
Coen Bros - belong on the list but not as #7 all time.

Spike Lee

(Oh, and Freiheit is actually one of my most favorite short films, but the topic concerns "Hollywood films")
Unlike a lot of other filmmakers listed who failed to deliver in their later years, at least Lee made a great recent film with 25th Hour.

When I started, Raimi was #47, but I voted him down and Powell up which was enough for them to switch places. Then, just for the hell of it, I voted Sirk up as well, even though I'm not a big fan of his films, and that was enough to push Raimi down to #49. I know this a stupid Internet poll, but I feel happy now.

It depends whether you're grading by peak performance or sustained effort. When Coppola was on his hot streak, he blew Friedkin away, but even Friedkin's lesser works like Bug blow away The Rainmaker and Peggy Sue Got Married.

When people say Francis Coppola has only made 4 great films I can only assume, they've only seen 4 Francis Coppola pictures. Granted his best films were made in the 70's, he still has an impressive body of work. But really, how is one supposed to make films as good as The Godfather year after year? Most filmmakers go an entire career without making ONE film even marginally close to as good as The Godfather.
Coppolas peak was clearly:
The Godfather
The Godfather II
The Conversation
Apocalpse Now
But besides those, he's made other films varying anywhere from very good to great in:
The Rain People
One From the Heart
Rumble Fish
The Outsiders
The Godfather III
Youth Without Youth
Tetro

^ I would replace Youth Without Youth (not a fan at all) with Tucker: A Man and His Dream. Also, I would disagree with Sean and defend Peggy Sue Got Married. It certainly wasn't The Godfather, but I thought it was good for what it was. I must confess that I'm also a bit of an apologist for his version of Dracula. It's very flawed, but I really enjoy it visually.

With my votes I managed to bump James Cameron above Mel Brooks and bump Sam Peckinpah two spots above Preston Sturges and Mike Nichols.
