No shit. I never liked Dylan but came away from the documentary really appreciating him and bought my first Dylan cd because of it.

Can't wait to see this.

It's going to be very different because there won't be the one on one interviews with Harrison but it looks pretty good except for the promos quick edits.

Well, it aired on PBS in two parts, but no, you must watch it all in one sitting.

And since you haven't seen a documentary that long, also check out MGM: When the Lion Roars.

I think I read in Rolling Stone that this movie is 4 hours as well, it will be aired over 2 nights.

I hope they spend at least an hour of this focusing on Zorro: The Gay Blade.

Re: Living in the Material World (Scorsese, 2011) - George Harrison Documentary

I really enjoyed the documentary quite a bit (I'd give it a 4 out of 5). Much of my enjoyment was tempered by the fact that, as a madcap Beatlemaniac and George fan, I was familiar with almost all of the subject matter brought up; I would have enjoyed more rare pics and video (the one of George watching The Beatles performing 'This Boy' was especially awesome), and the last 10 years of his life seemed rather rushed -- no talk of The Beatles Anthology project, the revisiting of All Things Must Pass, or even his 'comeback' with Cloud Nine.

But if you're looking to get a solid understanding of George Harrison, I think Scorsese did a really good job.

And WOWIE did George have an eye for women. Both Patti and Olivia were smokin' pieces of ass back in the day.

Any idea as to when we might see a DVD/Blu-Ray release? What is the history of previous HBO docs in terms of the gap between airing and release?

He wasn't called the "smart Beatle" for nothing

I too enjoyed it, though I somehow missed parts of each installment. But it's been added to their OnDemand selection so I'll watch both segments back-to-back. I would've liked a 3rd installment to flesh out more of the later years. Maybe the eventual video release will be extended?

Liked it too but agree on the lack of info about Cloud Nine and no mention of the She's So Fine/My Sweet Lord lawsuit. Wonder when those interviews with Spector were done? The man actually made sense.

^Heck there were interviews with Billy Preston, and he fell into a coma in December 2005 and died 6 months later. Scorsese's been on this for awhile, it seems, oh dontcha know...

Wasn't the bit with Preston an archival interview? It wasn't 16:9, and it didn't appear as good as the ones you could tell were recent.

And I have to applaud Scorsese for showing the old footage in its OAR. Cropped footage kinda bugs me in the ESPN docs. Even some of the photos were shown without cropping.

Heard this had already been released in some country with a second cd disc of never before released Harrison tracks.

The DVD and Blu-Ray have been available in the UK for over a month. There's also a deluxe edition containing the film on DVD and Blu, plus a 10-track CD of Harrison's demos, additional deleted material from the film (exclusive to the deluxe) and a scaled-down version of the companion book. And like most deluxe editions of anything, it borders on highway robbery.

Oh, and thank you, Mr. Scorsese: a golden opportunity to examine a interesting, conflicted person and you waste half the documentary on the Beatles.

Don't buy the Blu-ray from the UK unless you have a region free player. I picked one up and it won't play on my Playstation 3 unfortunately ..

I'm not sure if it merited a new thread or what, but today is the 10th anniversary of Harrison's death. It's hard to believe he's been gone that long.
